A landlady who doubles as a peace activist has refused to let a war veteran rent her property, citing 'conflicts of interest', he has claimed.
Sgt. Joel Morgan, 29, said he tried to rent a two-bedroom $1,220-a-month apartment in Savin Hill, Massachusetts after looking at it in April.
But the National Guardsman, who has served in Iraq, Afghanistan and Guantanamo, was stunned when the property's owner, Janice Roberts, 63, turned him away due to her staunch beliefs and his war service.
In a voicemail message heard by the Boston Herald, she reportedly said: 'We are very adamant about our beliefs.
'It probably would be better for you to look for a place that is a little bit less politically active and controversial.'
Morgan told the paper: 'It was like a spit in the face.

'For what we have gone through overseas, to come home to our country and have people discriminate against us - it made me extremely insecure about being a soldier.'
Morgan has now filed a lawsuit claiming Roberts violated a state law that prohibits landlords refusing to rent to veterans.
His lawyer Joseph L. Sulman said: 'It’s illegal, but also just unconscionable. It’s something any American should be embarrassed about.'
Roberts told the Herald she belongs to a civil-rights group, Garden of Enlightenment.
She claimed that 30 people had expressed interest in the apartment and 'we had to choose somebody'.
She added that Morgan never actually returned a rental form. He responded he decided against it after hearing the voicemail.
She said in a statement: 'Why would someone like Joel Morgan, who apparently fought so valiantly (sic) in wars in which he believed, want to even choose to subject himself to renting an apartment from people - like myself - who were so vigorously seeking an end to the Iraq War??'
Morgan served at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, in 2003, took part in combat tours in Iraq in 2007 and 2008, and fought in Afghanistan in 2011.
The divorced father of one said he now hopes to become a Boston firefighter. He added that the spat 'didn’t take away my pride of being a soldier for the United States. I’ll hold onto that until I die.'

Hopefully she falls victim to a gang rape or shooting after Sgt. Morgan has dragged her through the court process and turned her world upside down and she becomes another broke ass liberal.
