people are still morons

I'll go see this movie on Friday. I'm looking forward to it. I don't like Moore's documentary approach (making himself the star of his own film), but he does very good research.

his 'bowling for columbine' stats were bullshit. it was nothing but a hit piece against the nra, gun owners, and charlton heston.

I don't want to read through some random railing against it. I read through similar critiques of F911 and they were 90 percent bullshit like "the name of the book wasn't 'My Pet Goat' it was 'THE Pet Goat'."

Just tell me what stats he said in the film and link me to a poll or something that proves him wrong.

For examle, the movie obviously tried to peg Heston as a racist, when he was, in fact, one of the first Hollywood types to march for civil rights.

When they showed the mayor of Denver telling the NRA that they were not wanted in Denver (for their annual event), it then showed clips of Heston saying "When they pry it from my cold, dead fingers". But the quote was from a speech at least 2 years earlier.

Also, the clips were designed to make the NRA seem heartless when they did hold their annual meeting less than 2 weeks after the Columbine shootings.

I don't accept the idea that he tried to paint Heston as a racist. And the idiocy about the clip being two years earlier is exactly the kind of bullshit that you guys pulled out about F9/11 and the title of My Pet Goat vs The Pet Goat. It's meaningless.

And the NRA was pretty heartless for doing what they did when they did it.

I still haven't seen any "stats" that he got wrong. That's what the ironically named SmarterThanYou claimed.

Except the NRA did cancel all the events except the Board of Directors Meeting. And, since they are a nonprofit registered in NY, in order to change the location or date of the Board meeting, they are required to notify all the members 10 days in advance of the change.

The shooting at Columbine happened 11 days prior to the scheduled meeting.

If you would care to explain how they would notify 4 million members in 1 day, I will concede to your point.

Actually, I sort of trapped you with that. But it illustrates exactly what Bowling for Columbine did.

The scene in the bank getting the rifle was misleading as hell.

The scene about the blind hunter was misleading as hell.

There was plenty of stuff that he did to make the facts fit what he wanted to say.

I'd like to see the source telling you they canceled anything at all because of Columbine, leaving just the board of directors meeting. It's not something I've ever heard brought up.

From Hestons opening remarks at the NRA meeting in 1999:

"GOOD MORNING.

I want to welcome you to this abbreviated annual gathering of the National Rifle Association. Thank you for coming and thank you for supporting your organization.

I also want to applaud your courage in coming here today. Of course, you have a right to be here.

As you know, we've canceled the festivities and fellowship we normally enjoy at our annual gatherings. This decision has perplexed a few and inconvenienced thousands. I apologize for that."

From the NYTimes :
"After the Littleton school shootings, the National Rifle Association said it would shorten its annual meeting in Denver next weekend from three days to one, and cancel exhibits by gun dealers and manufacturers. The N.R.A. should listen to Denver's Mayor and cancel the conference altogether."

Of course the NYTimes is ignoring the fact that the NRA cannot cancel the meeting without losing its charter.

"The National Rifle Association on Wednesday severely curtailed its national convention in Denver next week out of "profound sympathy and respect" for victims of the Columbine High School shooting.

But Denver Mayor Wellington Webb wants the group to cancel its meeting entirely and urged citizens to wage a call-in campaign.

"Everyday people can make a difference," Webb said. "They can call the NRA. Get the 800 number off the billboards and call them and tell them not to come to Denver."

Coincidentally, an NRA billboard along West Colfax Avenue advertising its convention was taken down Wednesday.

Webb offered to refund all deposits and other costs the NRA incurred in renting the convention center, if the group would cancel its meeting outright.

In a letter to NRA members Wednesday, President Charlton Heston and the group's executive vice president, Wayne LaPierre, said all seminars, workshops, luncheons, exhibits by gun makers and other vendors, and festivities are canceled.

All that's left is a members' reception with Rep. J.C. Watts, R-Okla., and the annual meeting, set for 10 a.m. May 1 in the Colorado Convention Center.

Under its bylaws and New York state law, the NRA must hold an annual meeting.

The NRA convention April 30-May 2 was expected to draw 22,000 members and give the city a $17.9 million economic boost.

"But the tragedy in Littleton last Tuesday calls upon us to take steps, along with dozens of other planned public events, to modify our schedule to show our profound sympathy and respect for the families and communities in the Denver area in their time of great loss," Heston and LaPierre wrote.

Both men said they would still make major addresses at the members' meeting."

Yet in about two months somebody will bring it up again. This will make no impact on them whatsoever and they will continue to believe that the NRA did it to rub it in somebody's face rather than the fact that by their own charter and state law they had to have the meeting. At that time ib1yysguy will be silent, or it may even be he who brings it up.

Hey, you know what, Charleton is a...dead, it doesn't matter, anymore.

Projection.

You ever want to address that bogus poll you put up from IBD?
