Phil Robertson Will Return To 'Duck Dynasty' Episodes In January

12/21/2013

It looks like Phil Robertson's suspension from "Duck Dynasty" may be just for show. Entertainment Weekly learned that on Jan. 15, A&E will begin airing new episodes of the show that include scenes featuring the "Dynasty" patriarch.

"The network also hopes the media and fan furor will cool down over the holidays and that tensions over shooting future episodes can then be resolved," Entertainment Weekly reports. “There’s no negotiation to have; we’re doing the show,” an inside source told them.

A&E suspended Robertson over anti-gay remarks he made in a GQ profile. The duck hunter-turned-TV star compared homosexuality to bestiality and also said, “It seems like, to me, a vagina -- as a man -- would be more desirable than a man’s anus." Robertson responded to backlash about his comments by saying, "I would never treat anyone with disrespect just because they are different from me."

After A&E's suspension, Robertson's friends and family came out in support of him. Sources told E! News that the family was "very serious" about leaving the reality show after Robertson was placed on hiatus. "[Phil] is the reason for their success—they're not going to abandon him. They're also not about to let anyone threaten their religious beliefs," the source told E!. The family released a statement on the Duck Commander website saying, "We are disappointed that Phil has been placed on hiatus for expressing his faith."

The episodes slated to air after the New Year are part of the show's fourth season, which averages a colossal 14.6 million viewers, including DVR playback, but there's no telling if a fifth season will happen. Based on the success of the "Duck Dynasty" brand -- the family even made a holiday album that sold surprisingly well -- we'd be surprised if the network let the show die. The Huffington Post's immediate request for comment was not returned.

Meanwhile, A&E will air a "Duck Dynasty" marathon on Sunday, Dec. 22. Enjoy ... ?

God you are stupid. The shows that will air are already taped. A&E either pulls the shows which they obviously aren't going to do but it is in doubt where the show goes from here.

The big question is whether the queer lobby pushes harder to get the January episodes pulled or just let it go.

If the queers are smart they won't pick this battle. But then if they were smart they wouldn't be queer now would they?

Also, the brand isn't worth $400 million, the Robertsons are worth $400 million

All is well in the universe.
The queers are back on the bus going to hell and the gospel that God's love is exclusive will continue.
Now, let's get our Duck Dynasty outfits out of the closet and hold our placards high in support of our beloved leader.
P.S. Bring your own lunch

I think the suspension is really pointless. The damage to the brand is done, the only real way to appease the Lbgtq community is for Robertson to apologize and say his views have changed. I don't think anyone really expects that to happen, so IMO A&E should just create a bump for the show that says his views do not reflect that of the network, air it for a while, and hope for the best.

It's not really like when Eminem used a derogatory word and hugged Elton John and everything was fine, this was an actual expression of ignorance toward two very large demographics.

Its like he was never gone. Funny.
I dont really get Cracker Barrell dropping their merchandise. Do they have a discernable amount of homosexuals dining there ?
Anyway, a jolly holiday romp for everyone. Obama has to be delighted to have the ACA trainwreck a little less under the spotlight for a change.

How big a part of their viewership is the gay community? I can't imagine it was all that high. And is it really shocking that someone who is a fundamentalist Christian would hold those views? It isn't to me. And whose to say all this scrutiny wouldn't increase viewership? I have no idea if it will but I wouldn't be surprised if it did.

I read Cracker Barrel is pulling duck dynasty merch.

If they do that'd be a mistake, IMO. Of course I don't really know how wide spread the chain is. We might have one or two in our state but as I travel east (AR, TN, KY) I see more and more.

Your deranged pals shouldn't have tried to bully people.

He goes on to say that they are full of "murder, envy, strife, hatred. They are insolent, arrogant, god-haters. They are heartless. They are faithless. They are senseless. They are ruthless. They invent ways of doing evil."

Yes, Phil was once again paraphrasing or loosely (but accurately) quoting. I knew from where as soon as I read it. I'll post it for context.

Romans 1:26-31 NKJV
For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due. And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil- mindedness; they are whisperers, backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful;

This passage is often used to show specifically the sin of homosexuality and it's condemnation, but it also shows overall the sin of idolatry and it's associated sins as well.

CNN reports the brand is worth 400 million!
I don't know whether to be amazed or freaked out that there are that many redneck out there who really care about some swamp rat selling a whistle to other rednecks.

Oh well, this is living proof of what H.L. Menken said. "No one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public."

Damage to the brand? What alternative universe are you living in? How many GLBT people do you know who are avid duck hunters or rednecks?
