I think Republicans should moderate Republican primary debates and Democrats should moderate Democratic primary debates. Such moderaters presumably know what the primary voters care about and can better ask the candidates questions that reflect the voters' concerns.

I hear you but if I put myself in the shoe of a voter who isn't a member of either party I don't know how happy I'd be with that (of course during the primaries the party's tend not to care about those voters as much).

As a Republican I don't want to see Rush, Hannity or Levin anywhere near the stage moderating.

That's what the general election debates and all are for. What bugs the shit out of me as a Democratic primary voter is questions I don't give a shit about and being asked on candidates with right-wing frames about right-wing issues while other issues that I actually care about are ignored.

If the Republican Party elevates Rush to the position of debate moderator, the people will finally see the wacko that the Republican Party depends on and will loose even more of the moderate vote. The Republicans would be down to its 22% lunatic fringe.
