I went to college with kids who never knew their fathers because they died in Vietnam doing what their nation told them to do.

They were hero’s.

I saw the devastation it did even to the next generation and the one after that.

The war was a bad mistake, but those who answered the call of the nation are/were hero’s.

Republicans and NeoCons belatedly want to pretend they did not start the Iraq War, and the orange-colored Messiah leading their party belatedly calls the Iraq war a grave mistake based on lies (even though he supported the invasion).

If any veterans are at risk of feeling their service was pointless and unappreciated, it starts with Iraq war vets.

Same here on Vietnam. I've known a few people who's fathers were either killed in Vietnam or died from the effects afterward.

There's also all the heroes and those survivors who'd answered the call from WWII to Iraq even if some of those wars were morally bankrupt.

There were many heroes in the Vietnam war, US and Vietnamese.
There were also many degenerate butchers.
If we want to end wars we have to cease to celebrate them.

All of the same people that were calling , French fries “freedom fries”, and telling me I was unpatriotic for opposing the war…. Are now Trumppers.

The same ones calling the Gulf of Mexico, “the Gulf of America”!

But not the war in Vietnam which began under DEMOCRAT leadership that had light years more dead or disabled US troops come out of it only to give it up in the end. Instead your pick is Iraq huh? Figures......How stupid.
Tell the Truth, you called those who opposed the Iraq war, “unpatriotic” didn’t you?

You ordered “freedom fries” at restaurants, because the French did not join us in the war!

While the Bush league folks led the way, the Democrats followed including Queen Hillary herself. I don't buy the claim that Senators and Representatives blindly followed what Bush told them. It's up to Congressional Intelligence and Military committees to verify and certify such information. This is a primary reason why our Wannabe Dictator is stacking the deck in Congress.

Rubbish. Your commie hero 'historian' Howard Zinn has been thoroughly and totally disgraced. Democrats abandoned the Vietnamese people to mass murders and torture, like the vermin they are now.

More Zinnbot propaganda. The South was doing fine up until Democrats sold them out in 1975. The North only survived on Russian and Red Chinese aid, which continued after we betrayed our allies there.

Sez the woman who seeks to push all the Jews into the Mediterranean. Amirite, Ms. Moon?

The majority of Viet Nam vets would do it again if they had a choice. Stop repeating the left wing PRavda bullshit put out by draft dodgers and assorted dopehead commie college professors. The Watergate Babies were mostly DEmocrats. They're the same criminals who dreamed up the 'superdelegate rule' to shut off any uppity proles going against the wishes of the northeastern liberal technocrats as to who the Party's candidates were going to be in any election.

Then Republicans need to share exactly equal blame with LBJ on the Vietnam War, because the vote on the Tonkin Gulf resolution was 98 to zero.

If the vote were strictly left up to Democrats, the war would have never happened. Majority of House Democrats voted against the Iraq resolution. Bush cooked up and exaggerated the threat.

Bush framed the need for voting on the Resolution to give him negotiating leverage. He specifically said on the eve of the vote he was going to try to avoid war.

That said, Democrats should have known Bush was lying. I did. Some of them were too chickshit to vote their conscience.

On political message boards at the time, Democrat posters were universally opposed to the Iraq War. I cannot remember a single lefty poster favoring the war. @Phantasmal and Christifan can corroborate this.

Zinn is no hero, he told the truth about American history in his first book, but I often disagree with his view of what that truth means to us today.

A bad mistake beginning with the JFK administration, massively increased under the Johnson administration and finally ended by the Nixon administration.

Sadly, many leftists like you cheered for the Communists.

I agree those hero’s who took on a mission they were told was vital to American freedom would do it again, they are hero’s.

Oh, Ms. Edwina, for someone who never served and hates the US military, your claims of expertise in the matter is laughable.

I’ll democrats I knew were opposed, and if they were public about the opposition they were called names by the right and bullied for being “unpatriotic”.

Agreed on Vietnam. It's the same as Iraq except in reverse. :)

Agreed on Bush's exaggeration, but, again, that's what Congressional committees are all about. Well, until Trump. Now they are just rubber stamp committees who break early for lunch.
