"In the three months after the Democratic-led Congress approved Obama’s stimulus plan, the government doled out about 11 percent of the emergency stimulus funds, according to a progress report released by Biden’s office on May 13. "

Ok... so the economy is struggling and we should spend to help stimulate it. Agreed for the most part. But why the hell is it taking 3 months just to put 11% to work?

"The administration says it will commit about 70 percent of the money by the end of the next fiscal year, less than the 75 percent that White House officials projected in February. "

So they are going to take over a year just to get to 70%? Thanks. That should help the people out of jobs now.

"Biden, citing “significant progress,” stressed in the May report that most programs and projects were running ahead of schedule and under budget. "

This I would love to see evidence for. Government projects running under budget and ahead of schedule? Comical

"The act resulted in 150,000 jobs being created or saved in the first three months, the assessment said. "

Wow... I saved 50 million jobs this year, all by myself. Proof you say... well the people are still working aren't they? This has to be one of the best political jems to come along in decades.

"The 10 new projects to be financed with stimulus funds include hiring or retaining about 5,000 law enforcement officers, starting 200 new waste and water systems in rural areas, creating 125,000 summer jobs for young people and initiating 2,300 construction and rehabilitation projects at military facilities across the nation, the administration said. "

creating summer jobs? Glad that is such a focus.

I just heard it was only 5%. Jesus Waldo Christ. This is getting ridiculous.

Because, as I pointed out when it passed, the vast majority of it is carefully constructed to give the most benefit during elections years. They promise to "ramp it up" in the summer here, let's see if they can keep themselves from trying to stimulate only when it will benefit their power base.

I don't know, but it seems to me that you can go 2 ways on the stimulus cash: get it out there as fast as possible, or focus more on planning & oversight.

From what I've read, they are trying to balance the 2 priorities. I can't imagine the criticism if they had just thrown 50-70% of the money out there in the 1st few months, without real scrutiny.

To a degree I agree, they should not throw it out there just for the sake of doing so. But the infrastructure... the states know what needs to be done on that front. It has been staring at them for decades. Provide them with the money to get going on it.

If you want to stem the flow of people going onto unemployment... this is a way to create temporary jobs at a time when we need them the most.
