WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Barack Obama, picking up support following the Democratic National Convention, widened his narrow lead over Republican U.S. presidential challenger Mitt Romney in a new Reuters/Ipsos poll released on Saturday.
The latest daily tracking poll showed Obama, a Democrat, with a lead of 4 percentage points over Romney. Forty-seven percent of 1,457 likely voters surveyed online over the previous four days said they would vote for Obama if the November 6 elections were held today, compared with 43 percent for Romney.
"The bump is actually happening. I know there was some debate whether it would happen... but it's here," said Ipsos pollster Julia Clark, referring to the "bounce" in support that many presidential candidates enjoy after nominating conventions.
Obama had leapfrogged Romney in the daily tracking poll on Friday with a lead of 46 percent to 44 percent.
The president's lead comes despite a mixed reaction to his convention speech on Thursday night in Charlotte, North Carolina, and Friday's government data showing that jobs growth slowed sharply last month.

Those darn fickle voters!

If only voting was limited to rich white men, like in the good old days...right?

so obama 'bounced' back to his original lead

Romney entered the week four points behind Obama in the first installment of a Reuters/Ipsos rolling poll, with Obama leading 46 percent to 42 percent.

But the most recent daily rolling poll gave Romney a two-point lead of 44 percent to 42 percent among likely voters.

i wouldn't call that a bounce

not much, true, but better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick and still better than trailing...

oh well

When did you decide to be a coward, Don?
Was it a sudden decision or were you planning for it?

Three national surveys show President Obama getting a significant bounce in the wake of the political conventions, opening a narrow lead in a race that has been essentially tied for months.

The president leads Republican challenger Mitt Romney by five percentage points in the Gallup Poll, by four points in the Reuters/Ipsos Poll and by two points in the Rasmussen Poll.

That reflected a swing of five or six points from their standing before the Republican convention opened two weeks ago.

What’s more, Obama’s job-approval rating in the Gallup Poll on Friday and Saturday rose to 52%, the highest it has been since it was boosted by the killing of Osama bin Laden in May 2011.

The Gallup Poll posted Sunday, based on a seven-day rolling average, put Obama at 49%, Romney at 44%. Before the Republican convention began, Romney had led 47%-46%.

• Reuters/Ipsos Poll posted Saturday, based on a four-day average, gave Obama a 47%-43% lead; Romney had led by a point or two before the conventions began.

• The Rasmussen Poll posted Sunday, based on a three-day average, gave Obama a 46%-44% lead, a six-point swing from before the GOP convention.

A jump of five points would be the median for the bounces seen after conventions for candidates since 1964, according to a Gallup analysis.

This time, Romney’s standing didn’t improve after the Republican convention.
