ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) - The leader of a polygamous Mormon splinter group was convicted Tuesday of being an accomplice to rape for forcing a 14-year-old girl to marry her 19-year-old cousin.

Warren Jeffs, 51, could get life in prison after a trial that threw a spotlight on a renegade community along the Arizona-Utah line where as many as 10,000 of Jeffs' followers practice plural marriage and revere him as a mighty prophet with dominion over their salvation.

Jeffs stood and, like his 15 followers in the courtroom, wore a stoic look as the verdict was read.

Prosecutors said Jeffs, who performed the ceremony, forced the girl into marriage and sex against her will. Jurors said they agreed Jeffs rejected the girl's pleas and refused to release her from the marriage.

YAAY :cheer:

What a slimy POS. I hope when he gets to prison he gets treated just like the little girls he forced into marriage.

This guy is to mainstreem mormonism what Pat Robertson and Ratzinger are to Christianity.

I am very glad to see this verdict. I hope those pigs get the message.

More like Phelps than those two.

I belive Robertson and Rat are as radical as this guy, but it is true that the Christians give Robertson and the Rat more legitatmacy than the Mormons give this whacko.

Not having been involved with the Mormon religion, I cannot say.

well besides the whole underage law. i think people should be able to marry multiple wives if thats what they really want. lol.. or a man should marry a man.

I dont give a shit. people should do what they want.

My point is that radicals like Robertson and the Rat have official positions in the Churches they represent.

so Does the perv Mormon guy.

I forget the name, kinda like the fundamentalist Mormon church, before they reformed.

Not any more than the self-proclaimed "Minister" Phelps has. This is the reason that I suggested he is more like Phelps than the other two.

Umm size of the organization is an issue. Phelps pretty much qualifies as a cult with a relatively few followers. Phelps is the wacko that protests at funerals right ? i think usually about a dozen show up with him.
The Mormon dude has lots of followers.

Both of them pretty much include only family members. That interbreeding has made this guy's larger doesn't change that they have almost the exact same "official" backing of their churches. Which is zero.

Do you feel the same antipathy towards middle eastern polygamist child rapists?
No, they aren't Americans. Although we are supposed to embrace globalism we are somehow not responsible for the actions of those who are going to become part of the larger "tribe"...

I predict the basic answer will be, "Who cares how they live in 'such and such', we have no right to tell them how to live."
