Biden has blamed the Trump administration for making a deal with the Taliban that led to the withdrawal. In 2019, Trump criticized the ongoing U.S. presence in Afghanistan, claiming that American forces had been serving as "policemen" for 19 years and should not be doing so anymore.

If the risks weren’t so serious, Chris, it would be pathetic," Pompeo said about Biden blaming the Trump administration. Pompeo added that the U.S. reduced their forces in Afghanistan under Trump, but the Taliban did not rise up they way they are now.

Pompeo said that while Trump had planned on pulling out of Afghanistan, he would not have allowed the Taliban to take over. He said that the deal that the Trump administration had reached with the Taliban called for "a conditions-based withdrawal" and allowed the U.S. to take action if necessary.

"We made abundantly clear that if they did not live up to that piece of paper … we weren't going to allow them to just walk away from any deal that they struck, we were going to go crush them," Pompeo said.

Amid the widespread criticism that’s been thrown at the Biden administration over the collapse of Afghanistan following the withdrawal of American troops, Fox News anchor Chris Wallace kept it fair and balanced on Sunday morning when he confronted former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo over his own record of legitimizing and emboldening the Taliban.

Wallace, however, shot back, pointing out that a number of critics have said that Trump cutting a deal with the Taliban without the Afghan government even being involved was “hugely demoralizing” and led to the current chaos. (Notably, just weeks before the 2020 election, the Taliban endorsed Trump for president in the hopes he would “wind up U.S. military presence in Afghanistan.”)

Trump and Pompeo gave the Taliban that legitimacy?

The Fox News host then played a March 2020 clip of Pompeo saying that the Taliban had agreed to "work alongside of us to destroy, deny resources to and have [U.S. designated terrorist group] Al Qaeda depart from" Afghanistan.

"Do you regret giving the Taliban that legitimacy? Do you regret pressing the Afghan government to release 5,000 prisoners? Which they did, some of whom are now back on the battlefield fighting with the Taliban," Wallace asked Pompeo.

certainly not those defending the Biden rout

Look, most Americans already know and expect with total predictability, you TRUMPTARDS are going to make mountains out of mole hills, demonize him, berate him, REGARDLESS as to every thing Biden does or does not do!

So, it doesn't matter what Biden Does or Does Not do during his tenure in office, you TRUMPTARDS ARE GOING TO criticize him.

But do try not to look like total dotards and whiny mindless hypocrites!

Bet you can't do it!

So ... Trump surrendered Afghanistan to the Religious Quacks. (why does everything Trump touch turn to shit?)

Trump's Taliban negotiation bungling to blame for current chaos: former National Security official

With host Jonathan Capehart pointing out that the former president made attempts to negotiate with the Taliban and excluded the government of Afghanistan in the process, Rhodes claimed the what is happening now could likely have been avoided if the ex-president hadn't undercut the existing government.

sure Jack. you wanted to stay then? it's an "either / or" cant split the baby.

You should go there and tell the Taliban they are "religious quacks" - send us a selfie with your head on a pike

Trump sure did a crappy job of training the Afghan National Army, even though he had four years to prepare them.

They melted away within two weeks of NATO leaving.

Well, I agreed with your earlier Thread about staying. After 20 years, most of the 'heavy lifting' had been done. We had less Troops on the ground, the Afghans were doing most of the fighting, and our role was mostly air support, intelligence, and supply. 20 years is a long time. A civil society was emerging. A shame to throw all that away. This is like 'snatching Defeat out of the jaws of Victory'.

The U.S.to cut a deal with the Taliban without the Afghan government even in the room was hugely demoralizing and led inevitably to where we are today,"

But Pompeo couldn't respond to Wallace's follow questions regarding the conditions Trump granted the Taliban, the absences of the Afghanistan Government in the negotiations, nor the fact that the US basically got nothing out of the deal
