Poor Krugman.... so confused...

wrong. A national sales tax would tend to be regressive. Or it would result in the same type of mess we currently have where everyone wanted THEIR product to be exempt and thus would bribe politicians to get on the 'approved list' or their would be 'rebates' based on some arbitrary bullshit.

Enough of the arbitrary. Have a concrete plan that is simple, progressive and fair. Done.

I disagree with you totally.

Income tax is not fair.

The people wanting big gov't and don't really pay taxes could start pulling some of the load.

I'm not defending a sales tax, but that being said, I (we) lose our right to our property with an income tax. It makes people slaves to others, and has no place in a free society. The income tax must go!!!!!!!

Not fair? Asking people to pay taxes for our roads, firefighters, police, education etc... isn't fair?

Whether you tax people based on income or based on purchases, you are still taxing them to pay for those services. So the question becomes, which way is the most effective and fair, while at the same time protecting the poor and eliminating the current 'bribe a politician for favored status' approach to our current tax code?

This is not about 'big government'. Though if you compare the national sales tax approach to the flat tax w/ standard deduction approach... it is the sales tax that would increase the size of the government. It is the flat tax w/standard deduction that would reduce the size of government.

Your last paragraph is completely nonsensical.

I was just fucking with you, man. You need to relax and not take things so damned seriously.

Thanks for the link. I've been looking for that info and couldn't locate it.

You need to quit reading emotion into type written words. I am quite relaxed.

You are welcome for the link. I know that 3 second google would have been confusing for you.

Yes, it's quite a stretch to read emotion into a post calling me a fucking ignorant hackish retarded twit, because I know that when most people use language like that they are generally quite calm.

Douche.

you assume that the use of swear words indicates a lack of calm.

I can type you dumb mother fucker while laughing at you...

What does income tax have to do with the roads, firefighters, police, education etc. Other than one of the means to collect revenue.

Other than the roads, I don't see the federal government having the authority to rival the rights of the states.

The original income tax was a flat tax, and look at what its become. All the things you argue about, and were mentioned (Warned About) before its birth.

The constitution should protect me from being forced (mandated) to protect the poor at the expense of my own well being. They're not my responsibilility. I'm my responsibilility.

You lost me on this one.

Where do you find deductions?

I'm not comparing the national sales tax approach to the flat tax w/ standard deductions. You have that branded in to the equation.

This is a very short sighted view.

Desperate people do desperate things. History has shown us that when one portion of society falls into such poverty, they typically resort to their base survival instincts. Which typically results in ignoring laws and rules and regulations in an attempt to survive. That puts YOU and YOUR family at risk.

Why isn't this concept understood, must the French Revolution be replayed in our own backyard?

I don't know. That said, the concept can be taken too far to the other extreme as well.

We start including more and more into what a 'poor' person can possess and still be considered 'poor'.

There are areas where I think we should protect the poor... income tax being one of them. But at the same time, I don't feel we should eliminate all taxes on the poor (meaning we should leave SS/medicare/medicaid taxes on them).

I believe in providing welfare, but think it should be restricted by time and by the requirement of job training.

I think we should have unemployment bene's, but they too should be restricted by time. Endless extensions of bene's are NOT a solution. They further the problem.

I agree.
We as a society need to take care of those that are unable to take care of themselves; but there is no reason to coddle those that are just lazy.
Can't find a job, then your local area should have community service for you to do.
Can't get there, we'll pick you up.

The left keep denying the idea that there is generalizational welfare; but there is.
Apple refuses to believe that anyone would want to continue just getting by, when they have an opportunity to do something better; but I've seen it.
Grown men and women in their early 20's that started out on welfare and stayed on it until they were in their later years and now they have children that are on the same path.
More children = more money.
They can't seem to keep decent clothing on their kids; but they sure can drive better cars then I can afford, along with wide screen TV's and such.

The income tax has to go dude. Your defense of it,,,, is lame.

lol.... ok emoboy... now look at the chart...

The top 25% earn 46% and pay 70%....

the top 1% earn 20% and pay 38%

That's mainly because the lower class doesn't make shit anymore thanks to conservative policies. Of course they are going to represent a large portion of the pie.
