Populist Donald Trump drains swamp with fundraiser where he profits off $70,000 pictures with him
President Donald Trump’s latest fundraiser, which will be held at his own property, the Trump International Hotel in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, is apparently not for the “forgotten men and women” who Trump claims propelled him to victory in 2016.
According to the Washington Post’s Josh Dawsey, the cheapest entry price is $35,000 per couple, which entitles an attendee to dinner. A “photo opportunity” with Trump costs $70,000, while participating in a roundtable with the president requires $100,000.
The Republican National Committee (RNC) has spent over $343,000 at Trump’s D.C. hotel, per the Daily Beast’s Zach Everson. The Wall Street Journal’s Rebecca Ballhaus reports Trump’s re-election campaign has spent $113,000 at the site of Wednesday’s fundraiser.
Trump still owns and profits off of his business, despite claiming he handed over control to his sons. In July, a judge rejected Trump’s request to stop a lawsuit that alleges he is violating the Emoluments Clause of the Constitution by continuing to make money from the Trump Organization.
Todd Ricketts, who will be in attendance Wednesday evening, replaced Steve Wynn as RNC finance chairman following Wynn’s resignation after numerous allegations of sexual misconduct. RNC deputy finance chairmen Elliott Broidy and Michael Cohen also stepped down earlier this year due to alleged sexual and financial misconduct.
