President Donald Trump joked during a press briefing in the Oval Office this week about Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt being the reason for his “bad publicity.” However, according to a new report from Rob Shuter, he wasn’t totally joking.
“He’s not happy. And when he’s not happy, he starts looking at options,” a source told Shuter for his Naughty But Nice Substack on Thursday, April 2. “He’s even blamed her pregnancy for distractions. Saying the focus isn’t where it needs to be.”
Leavitt, 28, announced in December that she and husband Nicholas Riccio are expecting their second baby. Leavitt is due to give birth in May.
“It’s classic Trump,” the insider continued. “Everything comes down to performance — and perception.”
According to the source, the former Apprentice star has been eyeing conservative CNN commentator Scott Jennings as a potential replacement.
“Trump likes fighters. Scott goes on TV and defends him aggressively — that gets noticed,” the insider noted. “He thinks a new face could change the coverage. That’s how he sees it.”
The news comes weeks after the commander-in-chief replaced Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem with Markwayne Mullin, and amid reports that Attorney General Pam Bondi is on her way out.
“In Trump world, nothing is permanent. You’re only as good as today’s headlines,” the source told Shuter. “He hasn’t made a move yet. But he’s definitely thinking about it.”
