Look at the numbers, under Reagan's first year more jobs were lost and the recession took a longer recovery than under President Obama's first year.

Jesus F'n Christ! Reagan inherited a disaster too. Oh granted Carter wasn't anywhere's close to being as incompetent as Bush but that aint saying a hell of a lot.

Reagan inherited the tail end of the Nixonian period of Stagflation with double digit unemployment and inflation. He may not have inherited an economic collapse like Obama did but in terms of unemployment and inflation the situation Reagan inherited was even worse then the one Obama inherited, so you're not exactly saying a hell of a lot here Jarod.

I think Reagan's inherited a worse economy
I tend to agree with you but he didn't walk into the crisis that Obama did. Had that crisis been ignored, until the whole shit ball collapsed, then things right now could be a lot worse.

But if you compare the two time periods, 1981 and 2009, on just two economic factors, inflation and unemployment, both were worse in 1981.

someone explain to me how obama inherited anything as he was a US senator for four years....

i can understand if he wasn't in politics or was a state senator, but he was a US senator, how can it be said he inherited anything regarding the economy?

He was one of 100 (and in the minority for most of that time), as president he is one of 1.

The president has much more power and responsability than any individual senator. Gawd, I feel like I am teaching 8th grade civics on this board sometimes!

really, so bush had more control of the economy than obama, a US senator? obama had no role at all in the economy? you obviously need to retake your civics courses....

not at all, this last one was very contained to housing and used car saleman posing as bankers.

Carter gave us double digit inflation and unemployment.

What was inflation last year?
That was Nixon. Not Carter. The period of double digit unemployment and double digit inflation began at the beginning of Nixon's second term which carried over into Carters term. Carter backed some real unpopular decisions which ultimately brought the "stagflation" under control vis-a-vis Paul Volkler and he paid a dear political price for doing so. So be fair and be honest and put the blame for that period where it belongs. With Nixon.

I haven't seen anyone anywhere give Carter positive props on the economy ever. Even a lot of dems rip him a new one.
the are you better off now than 4 yrs ago started with Carter if I'm not mistaken

the whole stagflation malayse is his. Nixon toolage was earned with his whole spying issue.
