Instead of racial designation that reinforce ancient supremacist notions like a "pure", "white" race (except the color of their skin isn't even really white, they just think they're better than everyone) lording over the rest of the stained inferiors, I propose that we just send a series of swatches with the census, and have people compare and select the one that most closely matches their skin tone. Like this:
