GoFundMe Blocks $10 Million in Donations to Canadian Trucker Convoy

Crowdfunding platform GoFundMe blocked the fundraising efforts of the Canadian trucker convoy Friday, preventing its receipt of $10 million in donations, claiming the movement violated its terms of service.

Donors can request refunds and the remainder will be distributed to charities of the GoFundMe’s choosing.

Liberal MP compares freedom convoy funding to “terrorist financing”

Liberal MP Taleeb Noormohamed compared the funds raised for the Truckers for Freedom Convoy to “terrorist financing” on Friday.

Noormohamed made the comment while answering questions about forcing fundraising platform GoFundMe to testify before a parliamentary committee.

“It’s important to ensure the funds aren’t being used to promote violence, extremism, antisemitism and other forms of hate. I’m not stopping there: I moved a motion, passed unanimously, to get FINTRAC (Canada’s money laundering & terrorist financing watchdog) to appear as well,” tweeted Noormohammed.

Attorney General Slams GoFundMe, Urges Residents To Report Deceptive Practices

GoFundMe released a statement Friday evening, stating that those who donated to the Freedom Convoy had to submit a request for refund to get their money back, otherwise it would be donated to “credible and established charities,” though it is unclear exactly what charities the company would donate the money to instead.

Now they have folded and "allowed" automatic refunds to donors.

Coincidence? I think not.

Man who tried to burn down a school during BLM riots gets probation

mohamed-hussein-abdi-2.jpg

HE WASN'T DRIVING A TRUCK OR PROTESTING TOTALITARIANISM, SO...

A man convicted of attempting to set fire to a high school during the Black Lives Matter riots in Minneapolis has been sentenced to five years probation.

Mohamed Hussein Abdi, 20, was handed the probation sentence in a U.S. District Court in St. Paul, Minnesota, after pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit arson.

Abdi was finally arrested in June 2020, a month after he entered the high school through a broken glass door during the riot and was seen on security footage pouring liquid from a white container onto the floor and then into a trashcan. Abdi then took a liquid-soaked garment and sent fire to school before running away as flames and smoke began to spread.

The convoy rolling into Ottawa would have been the perfect time for Conservative politicians to offer their support to the truckers' justified cause

This week, all the news was of the trucker protest, which began on the subject of vaccine mandates but quickly became the face of widespread anger over a number of issues, from government over-reach during COVID, to the emerging threat of high inflation, the tremendous pressures put on businesses during protracted lockdowns and the wholesale ransacking of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

This would have been the perfect time for Conservative politicians to offer their support to these justified causes. Some did, I grant. It would be unfair not to note, for example, Pierre Poilievre’s early rebuttal of media attempts to paint the whole protest with the pathetic actions of a dim few. There were a few other Conservatives, but certainly not more than a handful, who stood up in the same spirit.

The convoy rolled across half of Canada to get to Parliament Hill and have their voices heard.

Trucks, tractors and a large group of protesters are in downtown Toronto for an anti-mandate demonstration today.

The planned protest started at noon at Queen’s Park, with protesters carrying signs and chanting against COVID-19 mandates.

Police said the service is prepared for what is expected to be a massive demonstration.

Last weekend, thousands of protesters, many of whom drove from the west coast, gathered in the nation’s capital to rally against COVID-19 mandates.

Local protests have also broke out in southern Alberta, Quebec City and Winnipeg.

Freedom fighters find funding platform

After GoFundMe tried to confiscate over $10 million donated for the ‘Freedom Convoy,’ organizers have found another platform.

The anti-mandate truck rally moved fast to GiveSendGo.

GiveSendGo had already raised more than $1.1 million as of 10 a.m. Saturday and did it in 12 hours despite bot attacks.

Enraged leftists were quick to claim the site is "associated with alt-right groups".

The left-wing Guardian claimed that, “police officers and public officials have donated money to fundraisers for accused vigilante murderers, far-right activists, and fellow officers accused of shooting black Americans.”

A mass protest arrives as Toronto braces with police show of force, barricaded streets

Thousands of protesters opposed to vaccine mandates and COVID lockdowns descended on Ontario’s provincial capital Saturday,

The arrival of hundreds of farm vehicles is a further indication that the movement has expanded beyond truck drivers who spearheaded the simultaneous Ottawa event.

Hulking farm tractors and smaller trucks began arriving for the demonstration on Friday afternoon. Police barricades prevented them from getting near the legislative building.

Cries of “Freedom” rang out repeatedly as a crowd braving minus-10 cold cheered.

Are DEMOCRATS afraid protests will break out in the USA too?

Protest-yongedundas2-859x639.jpg

What began as a single convoy specifically protesting a trucker vaccine mandate has morphed into a broader movement of diverse voices opposed to different aspects of government COVID-19 rules.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and others, have gone out of their way to amplify a handful of bad actors at the Ottawa protests and paint everyone with the same brush.

Bad actors certainly deserve condemnation and, if appropriate, criminal charges and arrests.

But it’s disingenuous of Trudeau — and members of the media — to ignore the very valid concerns raised by the protesters, both those in Ottawa and the ones set to appear in Toronto, parts of Alberta and other regions of the country.

Residents of Ottawa who live close to the convoy are rightfully upset at the non-stop honking that has made it difficult for them to focus and even sleep. It’s hard to blame them for calling for this to end.

But we shouldn’t lose sight of the forest for the trees — which is the issue of the overbearing COVID-19 rules most Canadians still live under.

The core request of the protesters is that the mandates should be ended. They happen to be right.

The mandates should not end because of the protesters.

No, the mandates should end because it’s the right thing to do.

Canadian public health officials say it’s time to treat COVID-19 like the flu. Canadians watch as other countries drop all of their restrictions. National public opinion supports heading in this direction.

It’s reasonable to take issue with the tactics of these protests, but it’s also reasonable — and necessary — to end mandates nationwide.

The GoFundMe page for the three suspects arrested & charged over the bloody felony vandalism of a family’s home for the purposes of witness intimidation appears to violate the site’s policy.

Can GoFundMe clarify if suspects charged w/such serious crimes can raise cash on their site?

Canada’s ‘Freedom Convoy’ is inspiring protests in other countries

In Austria, the U.S., New Zealand and elsewhere, people frustrated with pandemic restrictions like the way Canada’s protesting truckers roll.

Taking the inspiration from the Ottawa protest, they’re making plans online.

An anti-vaccine-mandate protest that began with Canadian truckers and their supporters travelling to Ottawa in a convoy may be forming the template for an international populist movement against COVID-19 restrictions.

After nearly two years of COVID-19 restrictions around the globe, the chorus of frustration with health restrictions and mandates to be vaccinated or risk losing work or access to other services seems to be resonating globally..

Police try to keep food from protesters

truck-protest-20220206.JPG

Fuel containers, charcoal briquettes, snow shovels and ice salt are piled in front of a vehicle on Feb. 6, 2022, as a protest against COVID-19 restrictions in Ottawa enters its second week.

Ottawa police said Sunday they would begin cutting off fuel, food and other supplies from reaching the protesters.

The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) announced the new tactic in a tweet Sunday afternoon, as the protest against COVID-19 public health measures in the city's parliamentary precinct — a protest several political leaders have called an occupation — continues for a second weekend.

Anyone who brings in those supplies could be arrested, OPS said. Police did not respond to a request for comment, citing "officer safety".

"Declaring a state of emergency does recognize and reflect on the danger that we're seeing in our city, the dangers and the harassment and just the kind of lawlessness," said Catherine McKenney, councilor for the downtown Somerset ward.

"And then beyond that, it's an administrative tool. It allows us to circumvent rules, for example, around procuring resources we might need."

Earlier in the day, McKenney revealed plans to introduce a motion at a special city council meeting Monday afternoon to bring the protest under federal jurisdiction.
