So when did Putin control Greenland? So while we watch the Democrat hand wringing over Trumps comments, there is total silence when Putin claims to defend Greenland. Why is that?

Putin threatens US over Greenland ambition: ‘We will not allow encroachments’

Russian President Vladimir Putin warned the US that it would not allow any “encroachments” by NATO in the Arctic as President Trump continues his “serious” quest to acquire Greenland.

Speaking before the Arctic Forum in Russia on Thursday, Putin said the world should not take Trump’s comments lightly and claimed Moscow would be ready to protect its interests in the Arctic if NATO nations expand their territory in the region.

“We will not allow encroachments on the sovereignty of our country and will reliably protect our national interests,” Putin said.

It's because you're a cross-eyed twat that can't comprehend anything at all unless you're force -fed.

? Greenland is already part of nato.

? Greenland is already part of nato.

Putin didn't say otherwise. Here's what he did say, from the article referenced in the opening post:
**
While the Russian strongman said that Greenland itself was not a concern, he claimed “NATO countries in general are increasingly designating the far north as a springboard for possible conflicts, practicing the use of troops in these conditions, including by their ‘new recruits,’ Finland and Sweden.”

Moscow has claimed parts of the Arctic as a zone of Russian strategic interest, with the region filled with rich fossil fuels and minerals beneath the land.

**

The title is misleading, as Russia is not so much threatening the United States as reminding them that they too have laid claim to parts of the arctic circle. Reading further in the article, i think Putin has made it clear that what he'd -really- like is to come to agreements on how any natural resources in the artic circle would be divided up:
**
Trump has expressed interest in the natural resources, with the US not ruling out the use of military force to take over the autonomous territory, which also belongs to Denmark.

Putin said he is taking Trump’s words seriously, with Russia monitoring the situation and crafting a response plan, including bolstering its military capabilities in the Arctic.

The Russian president, however, claimed he was open to compromise, with the Kremlin calling on the US to join it in dividing up the natural resources for the two nations to share.

**

It is my hope that the Trump administration takes this gesture of a mutually beneficial relationship in the arctic to work on diplomacy rather than simply trying to strong arm things to their advantage.

What I don’t understand is why doesn’t Denmark mine all those natural resources.

Who gives a damn what that dead eyed Kremlin creep has to say? GREENLAND IS NOT UP FOR GRABS BY ANYONE .... THAT INCLUDES CHEETO JEEZUS AND ALL WHO SAIL WITH HIM. Or are we now the United States of Imperialism?

lol.

Putin wants to feel like he matters. Truth is, a bunch of guys using our old equipment have held him at bay for years now. He's facing some uncomfortable reality.

lol fuck Putin, He's a joke, and soon his 'best buddies' will have one of their employees put one in the back of his skull. He's costing them too much money now. The little gas station pretending to be a super power is just pathetic.

Small country. Can't develop it without selling off most of it to some big multi-national, so why bother? Population 5 million, and none of them want to move to Greenland. Why they still keep it is just weirdness. I guess the fishing areas are still lucrative. Just ignore these morons trying to claim Trump was going to invade it or something; they're just idiot puppets parroting DNC stupidity.

However mining is not easy in Greenland because of its remote geography and weather. It's the world's largest island and 80% of it is covered by an ice sheet. It has rugged mountains and no roads between settlements.

"It's an arctic terrain," says Jakob Kløve Keiding, from the Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland, which has mapped the territory's deposits. "We have problems with harsh conditions in terms of the climate and limited infrastructure. So it's quite expensive to open a mine."

Expensive not just to open, but to operate as well.

Almost all mines, and oil wells, are in that position in the beginning. Like I said, they would have to sell it for peanuts to some multi-national, and won't make anything off of it, so why bother?

Greenland has been in NATO since the beginning, so none of this is NATO encroachment. In fact, trump is threatening to remove Greenland from NATO, so is would be threats of NATO un-encroachment.

Given Putin the idea he has a right to a sphere of influence was a huge mistake. Now Putin is trying to enlarge it.
