Qatar says oil prices should top 100 dollars
Oct 9 05:25 AM US/Eastern

Qatar's energy minister said crude oil prices, which have surged recently to record levels above 80 dollars a barrel, should be more than 100 dollars.

"If we take into account inflation from 1972 to the present day, the real and fair price for oil should be more than 100 dollars," Abdullah bin Hamad Al-Attiyah said in remarks aired by Al-Jazeera television on Tuesday.

He said such a price was justified by rising inflation, a fall in purchasing power and the weakness of the dollar, which has dropped about 10 percent in value against the euro over the past year.

I may be trading in my Wrangler for a Prius sooner than I had planned. Why can't they make a 4x4 Wrangler gas-electric hybrid?

Because it wouldn't have the power of the regular 4X4 and ruin the reason most people buy the things. That and research on true, valuable, energy sources that do not use carbon-based products is slim indeed.

Electric motors have many times more torque than gas ones at the low end (ie, slow 4x4 rock crawling and off roading).

However, the efficiency isn't there, the batteries drain and it would rely on the gas engine which is weaker and far less powerful than the engine they supply their regular 4X4's with.

All of it is considered before they choose to make such items.

There's no reason they couldn't put the same gas engine with an electric assist. My 4.0L would be just fine, and the electric motor would give me much better mileage in the city.

I think the real problem is finding a place to put the batteries.

I have an Unlimited, same problem. I wonder what the cost of a conversion would be? I don't do offroad unless you count trying to get into the driveway after a heavy rain. :o

Umm cost, Weight, etc....

It's possible to design a 4x4 that would be more fuel efficient than a regular one, but there would certainly be a much bigger price difference between a regular 4x4 and a hybrid one than there is between regular small cars and hybrid small cars. It probably wouldn't sell much.

There's not that much cost difference between a regular small car and a hybrid. A good friend of mine just bought a used Prius (two years, one owner) for $12,000. I bought a 4 year old Miata for that much a year or two back.

Umm this oil price jump will not be good at all for the Republicans in the election...I predict their electoion rhetoric will change in the oil direction by mid winter.
After all people care more about what they pay at the pumps than they do about the Iraq war.
And most are just too stupid to understand the complications of the high debt and low dollar, etc...

most are significantly more educated than you, and I hope your right about it hurting repubs. Dems will bring $200 oil.

Umm well then most apparently wasted an education.
Just as you did.

You can have an ivy league eddication and still be stupit. Take bush for instance....

Umm I have been working in jobs for 20 years that normally required a degree. But got waivers because I am so good :D
Truth.

had you been more educated you might have gotten rich before 60.
And had you gotten educated you wouldn't judge people on 1 narrow issue.

Judgeing you ? Ohh I don't do that at all on you. You are a well rounded asshole.

You are so screwed up in so many ways :D

you can take the one tooth wonder out of the kentucky trailor park but can't take the trailor park out of US-GED
