Man, don’t know why this one kind of hits the feels but it does. “The Pirate” was an absolute national treasure. (didn’t realize he had a law degree - not something you see too often on a head coaches resume). He was just a perfect fit at schools like Texas Tech, Wazzu and Mississippi State and his coaching tree rivals anyone. This is a sad day.

I know that everyone was praying so hard for him to recover... what a great loss ...rest in peace Coach... Gone Too Soon:(

He was the kind of coach his players wanted to win for!

Go RED RAIDERS!

I get it Cawacko. This has hit me hard. I woke up twice this week thinking about it. I had just been playing some of his interviews (candy corn, marriage advice, etc) for my wife, explaining who he was and his connection to OU a couple of weeks ago…then BAM. I have been hearing Mike Leach stories for years. Seems to me he was indeed a man’s man.

Then I see the SEC interview with that reporter … definitely a tear jerking situation.

I'm from WA State and I remember him well. He coached Washington State for years. RIP, Coach!

There have been a lot of colorful personalities in coaching over the years but in today's world he was unique. You truly never knew what you might hear when he was interviewed. And he was a really sharp and intelligent person which just added to it. This one hits hard.

I used to love his press conferences. This one made me sad, as well.

Man when it rains it pours. Did you hear about Tom Browning yesterday? Then Franco Harris the original Italian Stallion.

Both Leach and Browning were only a year older than me.

I didn’t hear about Browning, but just finished reading about Franco, darn shame.

It probably didn’t help that were about the same age either.

Hey my coaching hero is Woody Hayes. Who am I to cast stones?

I had a different relationship with both men. I hated Franco with an undying passion until he retired. LOL Truly one of the all time great RB’s.

Tom Browning played for my Reds. What I loved about Brownie was he was an every man’s athlete. He looked like an average guy and nothing like an elite athlete. With a running start he might have been able to throw 90 mph.

He was one of the best off-speed pitchers I’ve ever seen and he had a wicked curve ball/slider. He had an uncanny ability to get a side out in 10 pitches or less. So he could eat up a lot of innings.

I don’t think anyone who was a baseball fan back then will forget how his career ended. That was every bit as gruesome as Joe Theismans injury.
