For those who don't believe in medical for all and instead support linking work to healthcare you contribute to the inequality in this country.

The slave mentality of "work or go without" needs to change. Everyone pays taxes....EVERYONE! the government is there for the people not business. Besides, there's plenty of business's that pay no federal taxes i.e. the NFL, Religion and Fortune 500 companies.

The racist right has been conning white american's on this notion that government is so bad it needs to go unsupported.

That notion is based on racism against Black americans Time to stop accommodating the racist right and the privilege it brings white america.

Do the right thing for once. ...........stand up for someone other than yourself.

Healthcare for all.

Stop accommodating racism, hate, greed and oppression.

Your info on the NFL is incorrect. The NFL teams have all paid taxes. The NFL Front Office was tax exempt but they gave up that status in 2015.

Flash, you weren’t around when employer based health care was implemented were you? Haha. :)

Just kidding my man. My understanding is it came about during WWII under FDR because they instituted a wage cap due to rising wages and employers turned to insurance as a means of attracting top workers and employers received tax benefits for it (or something like that).

Linking healthcare to jobs was accomplished by union contracts due to Americans not getting healthcare. It was a huge deal in union contracts and other companies needed to match them to keep their staff. Non-union places also matched to keep from getting organized. I was at GM and the company matched what the union got in our deals,l even though we were non-union.

National healthcare makes sense.

We spend the most in the World.

But, don't live as long as many other countries.

Poland paid 1/7th of the USA on healthcare, but lives longer than the USA.

I'm not convinced the national healthcare accounts for all the differences in life expectancy and other healthcare stats. Even the countries with free healthcare complain about their citizens being less than willing to get annual check-ups or other regular doctor visits.

Sweden, for example, had higher life expectancy even before they had national healthcare and Swedes born in the U. S. have higher expectancy than many other American groups.

Canadians are racially similar to White Americans.

Canadians live longer.

Absolutely, Canadians are mostly English, Scottish, Irish & Germans just like White Americans..

I’ve not read a single article claiming this policy was driven by unions in 1942. Did unions drive FDR’s wage freeze policy? Did they make the IRS determined that employer based health care should be exempt from taxation?

But Canadian life expectancy also varies by ethnicity and region. So, factors other than availability of healthcare are also important (lifestyle, diet)

"The residents of the Richmond area, a relatively prosperous suburb in British Columbia, have the highest life expectancy in Canada at 83.4 years (two years longer than the average in Japan).

In contrast, residents of Nunavik, the Inuit region of Quebec have the lowest life expectancy in Canada, at 66.7 years (66.3 for men and 70.2 for women). Life expectancy in Nunavik falls between that of the Dominican Republic (67.0) and Egypt (66.5), ranked 111 and 112 out of 191 countries. In 2001, the population of Nunavik was 9632, including 8760 people of aboriginal origin.

Statistics Canada also reported low life expectancies in various other northern and isolated parts of Canada. Smoking, heavy drinking, and high mortality rates (partly due to suicides) are also prevalent in these communities. Canada's National Aboriginal Health Organization has pointed out that, in 2002, the national suicide rate in Canada was 13 for every 100 000 people. In Nunavik, the rate was 82 for every 100 000.

The council noted that the health of aboriginal people is worse than that of the general Canadian population for virtually every measure of health and every health condition. For example, infant mortality for First Nations people is much higher than the Canadian average (8 v 5.5 per 1000 live births in 1999)."

Nunavut or as your article says Nunavik is mostly a Native American dominated region.

https://www.worldometers.info/demographics/life-expectancy/

The bottom-line is that on the whole Canada lived about 3 years longer than the USA.

PS.
I've used Nunavut in gun arguments, obviously it's high murder rate is more racially charged, than gun oriented.

Hong Kong: 84.89
Japan: 84.67
Canada: 82.52
Germany: 81.41
UK: 81.40

And Japan and Hong Kong live 3 years longer than Germany and the UK. Is that due to better health care?

Don't the Nunavut have the same access to health care as other Canadians? Doesn't it vary by province?

So, how co Asian Americans live less than their Asian counterparts?

https://minorityhealth.hhs.gov/omh/browse.aspx?lvl=3&lvlid=63

Health: According to Census Bureau projections, the 2015 life expectancies at birth for Asian Americans are 79.9 years, with 82.0 years for women, and 77.5 years for men. For non-Hispanic whites the projected life expectancies are 79.8 years, with 82.0 years for women, and 77.5 years for men. Asian Americans contend with numerous factors which may threaten their health. Some negative factors are infrequent medical visits, language and cultural barriers, and lack of health insurance. Asian Americans are most at risk for the following health conditions: cancer, heart disease, stroke, unintentional injuries (accidents), and diabetes. Asian Americans also have a high prevalence of the following conditions and risk factors: chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, hepatitis B, HIV/AIDS, smoking, tuberculosis, and liver disease.

I don't know. I remember reading health problems increased in Japan when they began importing American beef. I bet diet plays a factor (fewer Japanese restaurants?).

Asian Americans are still mostly thin, regardless of diet.

I suspect that some Americans lacking healthcare, does impact the Life Expectancy.

Why wouldn't it?

For example, those with insurance, will go to the doctor for a check up & find out they have high blood pressure, and put them on meds.

As opposed to the uninsured, who are more likely to avoid healthcare check ups & just end up one day in the ER with a massive coronary, and die.

Which could have been prevented.

Health Care shouldn't be tied to Employment. I hope we learn at least this out of the Pandemic.

During WW2 we had wage and price freezes. The only way unions could get more was to fight for healthcare. The Labor Board ruled that it was not a wage increase. So unions fought for it. Until then it was pay fees to get healthcare.
