The answer is nuclear, not solar. Miners could be moved to mining uranium and thorium. Since solar cannot supply our energy needs (nor can wind), the only non-carbon emitting source that can becomes nuclear.
A future based on solar and wind is a false promise of success. It will be one of failure. Nuclear and natural gas are the future in energy--if you are a pragmatic realist.
Anyone but a fool can see wind and solar are not the answer.
