Recently ignored issues Prt 1: Civil Marriage.

Aint I a cutie? HEH HEH
The dems discusse this, and no one here has brought it up. so here is my own opinion.

Marraige by definition is the joining of two or more: It does not have to be religious, or even between two persons.:

I happen to be fully in favor of Civil Unions (marraiges) ---then If falks want to take it further, let them have a religous or church ceremony.

But regardless of the form of union, the participants should be afforded ALL the same rights and privilages of religious marraiges.

In my humble opinion Both sides of the issue are engaged in "Much ado about nothing. The Gay side insists upon a word (marraige) while the other side says that is an infringement on thier rights--- NUTS to BOTH of them.

I believe that all licenses should be for unions. If you want a marriage go to a church with your civil union license and have them perform a marriage ceremony for you. It would be 100% equal for any two adults who wished to go ahead and set it up.

You are preaching to the Choir, I fully agree.

i just do not think marriage liscences should be premanent and need renewal.
Spouses might treat each other better....
esp right before renewal time ;)

I believe it would just make marriages even more temporary. Currently most first marriages make it, the divorce rate of 50% includes those like my sister's current BF with 3, or more, divorces. First marriages survive at about 70%, that is a good rate, let's keep it there by keeping it as much the same as possible.

umm the divorce rate is sort of a seperate issue. lack of personal responsibility mostly.
but my idea would cause a hardship on lawyers ....

I doubt that, people would have as much trouble separating their goods at the end of a license as they do otherwise.

In Misssissippi, it's difficult enough to get a civil union law for gays passed.

If you add in that the state will now only call what was formerly a "marriage" license a "civil union" license for all, 10,000 angry rednecks will appear at your door and yell "This is political correctness to the extreme! Why are you destroying our right to marriage! The state marries us, not God, after all!".
