I've gotta agree with Harry on this one. Since I've been out of work I've caught myself slapping women around more. Sometimes them ho's just need a forearm shiver.

Reid: 'Men, when they're out of work, tend to become abusive'

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) suggested Monday that domestic violence by men has increased due to U.S. joblessness.

Reid, speaking in the midst of a Senate debate over whether to pass a $15 billion package meant to spur job creation, appeared to argue that joblessness would lead to more domestic violence.

"I met with some people while I was home dealing with domestic abuse. It has gotten out of hand," Reid said on the Senate floor. "Why? Men don't have jobs."

Reid said that the effects of joblessness on domestic violence were especially pronounced among men, because, Reid said, women tend to be less abusive.

"Women don't have jobs either, but women aren’t abusive, most of the time," he said.

"Men, when they're out of work, tend to become abusive," the majority leader added. "Our domestic crisis shelters in Nevada are jammed.”

Reid's remarks aren't the first controversial remarks he's made on the Senate floor. He said in the midst of December's heated healthcare debate that the Senate needed a "Rodney King" moment where members could "all try to get along," channeling the plea of King, who pleaded with L.A. to calm itself after its 1991 race riots.

The Senate supported cloture in a 62-30 vote on Monday evening.

Hey he's really old, no? What's a few generalizations that smear men and angelize women? LOL!

Unemployment tends to bring up more of the worst in society.

The rates of domestic abuse, alcohol related crimes, drug related crimes, and robberies go up with the unemployment rates.

Regardless of progress society has made, a lot of men still feel the pressure to be the bread winner. If they aren't providing for their family, they are a failure.

One weird thing about this year is that the violent crime rate is actually still falling despite the shit economy.

Maybe because people are seeing what not caring about anything but the almighty dollar does to the human spirit and are now clinging to the things that are tangible; Like love of family, contentment, and being okay with being okay.

Usually violent crime goes up in a recession.

In SF they are stealing iPhones in an orchestrated manner. They position people in various points in the City and talk with eachother (the thieves) on their cell phones and let eachother know when a potential victim is getting close to them. The easy targets are women, the phones of choice are iPhones. Despite service being suspended, the iPhones are getting most black market bang for the buck.

Perhaps violent crime is being tamped down, or perhaps what's being reported is.

There was organized cellphone theft before the recession. And, besides, I said violent crime, which is pretty hard to not report.

Not reported here.

Were you born with a chip on your shoulder, or is it "in" to be disagreeable all the time? Kind of like the "Pissed off Generation" or "GenIrate"?
