Not true but whatever; you're getting off on a tangent. The fact is that the GOP was fighting for Civil Rights, continuously, for 100 years before enough members of the Democrat Party finally signed on. Not a majority of them, but enough to join with a policy that the GOP held since its inception.
And then, as your story goes: *bam* large majorities of both parties suddenly switched philosophies.
Again, I know that's what you were taught in a Democrat controlled public school system staffed with members of the Teacher's Union, but does that honestly make sense to you?

FYI Wanderingbare, it was Wilson, not JFK/LBJ that switched the Dems over to being a leftist party. And even between that time, you had people like Smith, FDR, Truman, and Stevenson who were leftists before Kennedy came along.
