For the second morning in a row, a reported intruder was shot by a resident, this time in the Gardnerville Ranchos.

The alleged intruder was identified as Christian Henessey Gorham, who was taken into custody on April 28 for violating a restraining order and possession of a controlled substance.

After he was released from the medical center he was booked into jail on a burglary charge.

Deputies and medics responded at 4 a.m. Wednesday to the 1200 block of Alicia Circle in the Gardnerville Ranchos, where a 23-year-old man was shot in the shoulder.

The man was able to walk out of the home on his own and was transported for treatment at Carson Valley Medical Center.

In a strikingly similar, but unrelated, incident that occurred around 5:55 a.m. Tuesday, a man who reportedly tried to break into a Topaz Ranch Estates was shot and killed.

Deputies were en route to a report of the man attempting to enter the home and was banging on windows trying to get inside.

Just after 6 a.m., dispatchers were told that the man tried to come through the sliding glass door and was shot multiple times with a .45 caliber pistol.

The man retreated and collapsed in the driveway of the home in the 1500 block of Topaz Ranch Drive. By 6:45 a.m. deputies reported the man had succumbed to the gunshot wounds.

Douglas County Undersheriff Ron Elges said the identity of the dead man likely won’t be released until today.

The injured man was not identified on Wednesday, but dispatchers told deputies that he may have had a restraining order against him.
