Michigan Republican Rep. Paul Mitchell told CNN that his disgust and disappointment with President Donald Trump's efforts to overturn the results of the election have led him to request that the clerk of the House change his party affiliation to "independent." He did not behave with honor, and now we get his song and dance about how he is such an honorable fella.

Forget what liberals say, based on his reasoning what did he do that you feel is dishonorable?

Edit: I suppose an argument could be made that a person elected under a certain party should not be able to change their party registration while in office but not sure I support that.

Did you read why he became an independent? My guess is you didn't because Post #3 isn't relevant.

Ya, he claims to be upset that someone went to court to resolve a disagreement.

He seems to be very confused about how civilized people behave.

This is interesting:

Dec 3
U.S. Rep. Paul Mitchell says he's withdrawn from a prominent bipartisan House caucus over a disagreement with colleagues over federal aid for state and local governments during the pandemic — something he opposes.

Mitchell, a Dryden Republican, said he quit the 50-member Problem Solvers Caucus in recent weeks but didn't provide an exact date.

His departure became public when Mitchell expressed opposition Wednesday to the $908 billion COVID-19 relief framework that the caucus endorsed this week in conjunction with a group of nine centrist senators.

Since tone can be difficult to discern I'm not asking this in a d*ckishway, do you disagree with what he did there?

I dont disagree with his argument that bailing out the states who got themselves into dire financial difficulty by miss managing the pandemic is a bad idea. I say that we have declared war on future generations by refusing to pay our own way, by charging our expenses to future generations....more of that is a bad idea and also states need to face accountability for their bad decisions. But quitting this group in the last hour in a snit....YA...that is small. I get the idea that this guy is having a melt-down over what a swamp Washington is, about how corrupt and useless Washington is, if so I would like to hear him talking about that on his way out, about how he is leaving because Washington is very broken a no longer worth his time. Others who have decided that and left did make a statement to that effect to the American people on the way out, why cant he measure up?

He's a Congressman from Michigan. Had you even heard of him before today? I hadn't. It's not like the national media or public is all that interested in what this guy has to say (no disrespect intended to him). Have you read his twitter feed? Maybe he posted more about it there.

And he made his statement about why he's switching parties (although it's really irrelevant since he's leaving office)

I read that he now is an independent...which is not switching parties.

Ya now I have heard of him, but not in a good way....he looks small.

Granted it always easier when leaving office but dude stood up for what he believed in. I don’t see a problem with that

OK, this is respect:

"You look at the rhetoric and vitriol, it overwhelms policy, politics becomes the norm,Everything’s about politics. Everything’s about an election. And at some point of time, that’s not why I came here."

This is what I want to hear from him right now, not the grandstanding, not pitching a fit that Trump went to the courts with his complaints.

Very commendable:

"As elected members of Congress, we take an oath to "support and defend the Constitution of the United States," not to preserve and protect the political interests of any individual, be it the president or anyone else, to the detriment of our cherished nation."

This dude obviously does not understand that we the people have a right to fair elections and that everyone pursuing through the courts having elections be fair is acting in the interests of both the people and the Constitution.
