Republican Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna files bill to FULLY REPEAL the Patriot Act

Indeed. Do you agree they should repeal the Patriot Act to restore privacy?
  • Criticism and Debate:
The Patriot Act has been criticized by privacy advocates and civil liberties groups, who argue that it has led to the erosion of fundamental rights and has been used to gather information about innocent individuals.
Examples of Privacy Concerns:
    • Phone Records Collection:
Section 215 of the Patriot Act, which allowed the government to collect phone records, was a major source of controversy. Edward Snowden's revelations revealed that the NSA was collecting phone records of millions of Americans, raising concerns about mass surveillance.
    • Access to Business Records:
The act allows the government to access business records, including library and financial records, raising concerns about potential misuse and the chilling effect on free speech.
    • Internet Surveillance:
The Patriot Act also updated wiretap laws to include Internet communications, allowing for the government to monitor online activities.

It doesn't matter if they repeal it. They voted in the National Defense Authorization Act over 10 years ago. The Patriot Act is old and useless now. Besides, the first 10 years of the act netted over 1,100 drug cases and 5 terrorism cases.................

This is virtue signaling
