Republican Senators vote to Keep the Iraq War going...

One thing I take issue with kos on, is this business of "protecting" the president.

While I think republicans are loath to vote against their own president on his War, I think there's another dynamic in play. Republicans simply have an emotional, knee-jerk response to any Democratic plan on Iraq -- its in Republican DNA to never, ever, admit Dems are right. Voting with Dems, would be tantamount to admitting Dems were right on this war.

Protecting their President

Standing firmly in the slow quicksand of public disapproval and impending electoral defeat, the WINOs, the Waverers in Name Only, voted with their president this morning, blocking passage of the Levin/Reed amendment to the Defense Authorization.

By a vote of 52-47, with 60 "yea" votes required, Republicans filibustered the Levin-Reed amendment to the Defense Authorization bill, thus keeping it from going to an up-or-down vote and effectively killing the measure. Republicans Chuck Hagel (R-NE), Olympia Snowe (R-ME), Gordon Smith (R-OR) and Susan Collins (R-ME) voted with the Democrats.

can we say Dem landslide in 08, we are see defections now growing from a trickle to a creak.
come 12 months the defections will be flowing like the mississippi river.

Yeah, you see it here too.

You know what galls me? these are the same mf'ers who whined and stomped and stamped that bush's judicial nominees deserved an "up or down vote".

A freaking judicial nominee deserves an up or down vote, but our guys dying don't. I don't know how anybody supports this, I don't.

Thanks for the reminder.

Where is Dixie when you need him?

I see that some blue-state republican senators voted for Bush and his war.

Say bye-bye to Senators Norm Coleman and John Sununu,

It is about oil and securing it's supply for the USA and US oil companies.
We can't leave and do that.
It is getting to be time the Republicans leveled with the American people.
But who would believe them at this point ?

They talk of free trade but want to secure oil supplies with bombs and guns.

Why did Harry Reid vote no?

Its merely a parliamentary thing. I don't know exactly how it works, but when a cloture vote fails, there's something about the Senate leader having to record a no vote.

The reason is so that the issue may be brought before the Senate again for vote. In this case meaning more theatrics for press time.

Correct.

They just let the democrats off the hook for their initial war votes.

Landslide '08.

That's right, Iraq belongs entirely to the republican party. It always has. The dems have never had any real plan for Iraq. It is why, with men and women in harms way, the american voters will once again give the white house to a republican. Ridiculous pretense at troop withdraw is not a plan, it is a waste of tax payers money and patience. Polls show that americans are more tired of partisan politics that gain nothing, than they are of Bush. That should be a red flag for dems.

Kaiser, polls also show that most Americans want our troops to start coming home.

Landslide '08.

And that most now think Iraq was a mistake to begin with.

I am looking forward to the larger Democratic majority in the House and Senate, and having the White House for many years to come.

I can't wait to squeeze them till they squeak, and then, squeeze them just a little bit more.

:clink:

Kudos....
