What do you do with a junkie and home burglar who won't change his ways - but who turns in a child molester when he finds pix during a breakin?

Girl's savior faces 3rd strike
Stolen photos Matthew Hahn sent anonymously to authorities showing a man molesting a toddler led to a 30-year prison term for the molester. But prosecutors are now seeking a life term for Hahn, 26.
Three petition drives have started for leniency, the San Jose Mercury News says: "There have been blog polls, raving CNN hosts, e-mails from Sweden, editorials in Jackson, Miss., radio shows in Canada...

I think the prosecutors should grant amnesty to this man...and submit for a grant for his education, job training to include rehab...as it is apparent he still has morals in tack...there is hope for him yet!

Amnest? You propose they avoid doing their duties and not prosecute the law?

Three strikes is great on paper, it's kind of different whenever you actually look at the people it victimizes.

it should only be for violent crimes

I would support making life in prison without parole one of the options on the table for the judge. Not mandatory. Or else you get RIDICULOUS situations like this. If the judge was too lenient, for Christ sake, that's what we have APPEALS for. It's much better to have a few get "off the hook" than have people going to prison for life for stealing razor blades, or helping catch a child molester.

Just.....

BB is for letting a criminal off the hook and he was a cop....

under mitigating circumstance...each case stands on it's own merits...in this case Justice was served against a worse criminal! Now if you want to refer to the Narcotics smuggler who was shot in the ass by the BP agents I say hang him high...Let the Agents go free!

The problem with that, BB, is that we have a justice system. We do not rely on vigilante's. In the past, whenever societies did that, it would lead to deaths of entire families and villages as people tried to pay back the people who wronged them "tenfold", and the people that they were now wronging responded in kind. Society has a vested interest in not allowing vigilante justice, however much it may appeal to your barbarian mind.

Not always true. San Francisco was transformed from a horrible "Western" settlement into the city we know today largely through the efforts of a vigilante police force.

It really depends on the vigilante.
