Researchers cut chloroquine study short over safety concerns

Citing a “primary outcome” of death, researchers cut short a study testing anti-malaria drug chloroquine as a potential treatment for Covid-19 after some patients developed irregular heart rates and nearly two dozen of them died after taking doses of the drug daily.

Scientists say the findings, published Friday in the peer-reviewed Journal of the American Medical Association, should prompt some degree of skepticism from the public toward enthusiastic claims about and perhaps “serve to curb the exuberant use” of the drug, which has been touted by President Donald Trump as a potential “game-changer” in the fight against the coronavirus.

Chloroquine gained widespread international attention following two small studies, including one with 36 Covid-19 patients published March 17 in France, found that most patients taking the drug cleared the coronavirus from their system a lot faster than the control group. The JAMA report said those trials didn’t meet the publishing society’s standards.

Leftists would rather watch people die than find something that will save their lives.

Mr. Harper goes on to say that his wife did test positive for the Wuhan virus, and thanks to hydroxychloroquine and President Trump’s promotion of the drug, he got to bring his wife home from the hospital yesterday.

A 53-year-old nurse who described herself as a nonsmoker with no medical issues, Novins spoke to me from the hospital that had cared for some of the seven members of a family ravaged by COVID; two adult brothers, a sister and their mother died from the infection.

“The doctor insisted the pharmacy get it to me the minute we got the positive,” she said of hydroxychloroquine. “It seemed like their go-to right away.”

What part of 2 dozen people dying, are you finding difficulty to understand

"The study, sponsored by the Brazilian state of Amazonas, tracked 81 adult patients who were hospitalized with Covid-19 and was conducted between March 23 and April 5 at a medical care facility in Brazil. "

Beat me to it.

C'mon, Trump supporters. Your Dear Leader needs you.

Volunteer to take part in studies of the drug.

As the fucking moron might say, "Whata got to lose?"

It is only natural that people will seek a solution to the problem.

The most desperate will be prone to the most extreme possible solution, and the most likely to overlook warning signals.

Not to worry Frankie; stay hunkered down in your mom's basement until they develop a vaccine. We'll call you when it is safe to come out okay?

There are doctors all over the world on both sides of the chloroquine debate. In the US I wonder how much of the negative media bias about using this drug is politically motivated? Why not just shut up let the medical world come to a conclusion the drug works or not. All the media is doing is creating a frenzy.
