Respect is something that the youth demand. the aged expect to be let down on. this is because the respect shown to people is optimistically expected, yet, as time draws on, we get used to not being shown. this is due to expectations of being shown as better, somehow, in that person's idea of themselves.
So, what is respect? i would rather use the term "offended," as it was someone being offended that led to this thread, but respect is pretty close, yes? when you are offended, you feel a lack of personal strength, that someone is not showing you how strong they see you as, as everyone else respects you out of your own ability. then, there is the lack of respect that comes with dismissing someone, being racist... it is about non acceptance as being a peer of theirs, and, often not being a peer of a group.
Let's take racism, this is where white people are offended by black people. it is clear that through out history people of colour have not been accepted by the white colonists, and, this is due to the natives not being viewed as peers of theirs, not in their class as it were.
What makes us offend people? sometimes we follow things that to us seem obvious, but, those we interact with see it as unaccepting. this is often because of being looked down upon, not being admired by those around you in your family, as a young boy grows into a man, he demands respect too, and, unfortunately, often demeans his parents until they accept his claim to adult hood - a form of social structure that allows for him to, for example, stay out late or smoke, yes?
