Retail sales up, foreclosures down, jobless claims down

Thats a shame... I could have pointed out some that I think you would enjoy.

The Ender series by Orson Scott Card for example.

Do you enoy writers like Tom Clancy, Robert Ludlum, Jack Higgins, Clive Cussler?

I would guess you love the classics, just wanted to see what other types of fiction you enjoyed.

The Hyperion series by Dan Simmons.

I used to read plenty of popular fiction, but I just lost my taste for it in recent years. Except for Patricia Cornwell. I did buy her latest Scarpetta novel, because I am a big fan of Kay Scarpeta. I haven't read it yet though. Regarding the authors you list, I have read absolutely everything Ludlum wrote. He was an early favorite of mine. I'm sure I read some Clancy in the 90's, but I can't remember him the way I do Ludlum's stuff. I have never read Cussler or Higgins. I have read a lot of Stephen King, but even him, these days, I just don't read him much. I really don't know why.

Well, I'd be happy to dig up some threads from those days for you fellows. All I talked about was that the economy was being somewhat falsely propped up by an overinflated housing market, and that record debt based in large part on loans against overvalued homes was a bad warning sign.

Yeah; guess I was off on that....

Onceler must you keep ruining this book thread with this stuff?

Sorry!

I used to read a lot of King also. I bought his last short story collection, though, and was surprised by how weak it was. It seems like he's running out of ideas.

I'm a big Follett fan, especially the medieval stuff. I just got a new book called "Atmospheric Disturbances", which was supposed to be great, but I can't get past the 1st couple of chapters....

Yes exactly, I have thought the same thing about King. I do like Follett. I loved Eye of the Needle, and I have Pillars of the Earth in that stack of "to read" books that gets higher and maybe you never read them all. I used to insist on slogging through a book that I just couldn't get into. Now I don't bother. If I really can't get into it, I just stop.

"Pillars" is one of my favorite reads. I've actually read it 3 times, which I guess is kind of psycho. I keep waiting for someone to make a movie out of it...

No, I've read a few favorites that many times. The Bourne Identity is one, and "It" is another. I'm definitely going to get to Pillars now that you said this though.

Pillars of the Earth was a good read.

I loved the Bourne trilogy... so very disappointed in the movies though. Don't understand why Hollywood feels the need to destroy good books as often as they do.

I was thinking the same thing about King's books. "It" was terrible, as have most of his horror adaptations.

They get his non-horror stuff right - Stand by Me, Shawshank, etc., but the horror stuff for King has been really bad....

Yeah, the IT movie did suck, really badly. The Bourne trilogy movies, were really nothing like the books, but as action movies weren't bad. They never made a really good Bourne Identity though. I remember a tv movie version with Jacklyn Smith, oh did that suck!

Well, I'm out of here, Happy Valentines Day guys! Enjoy.
