I remember reading some articles from around or before 2015 where billionaires were growing concerned that the wealth gap between the rich and the poor was going to result in a revolt against the ruling class. Isn't it ironic that the revolt against the billionaires and ruling elites came from the Republican base more strongly than the Democratic base? Since Reagan, the economy and America's wealth has overwhelming favored the rich, resulting in stagnant wages even as productivity increased. Prior to Reagan, families used to be supported on a single income -- now it generally requires two parents working full time to provide a meaningful existence for their family.
The Republicans and Democrats have been sustaining this model since Reagan, but Republicans have overtly been championing more tax cuts for the wealthy, fewer regulations, and fewer worker protections. Democrats were quicker to realize that the wealth gap was a problem (starting around Obama's term), but it was the Republicans and ironically a rich billionaire tyrant-mogul from the 1980s that managed to capitalized on the sentiment and turn it to his political advantage.
Thus, the revolt of the desperate poor has come from the right -- who have traditionally been screwed by their own party -- and not the left.
