Rick Perry Thinking of Running for President

How much of a chance do you think this guy has of winning the Republican nomination and then the Presidency? He's been a long term Governor of a big state. It's also the state that W. came from which I'm sure would work against him.

I don't know all that much about him but my initial impression would be he stands a better chance than Palin, Bachmann, Newt or Palenty (sp).

If he announces, Perry would have a better chance than Palin or Bachmann (neither is running at this time, as far as I know).

We'll see.

He would do FAR better than the first three. Between him and Pawlenty, I don't know....

Dems would attack hard on his positions on Death penalty (he supports), abortion (against funding ELECTIVE abortions), faith comments (if you don't confess your sins to Christ, you go to hell comment), school voucher programs (he supports), tort reform (he supports) and especially on his intelligent design should be taught alongside evolution (which on this one I would agree with the Dems... I don't mind it being taught as an alternative, but it should not be taught in a science class)

The locals are already hitting on his comment last year for Texas to secede from the Union.

Zero chance
But, Perry/Bauchman would be fucking hillarious

IF he wins does he still back Texas going it alone. bahhahah

The locals are already hitting on his comment last year for Texas to secede from the Union.

Which isn't what he said. He was talking tough about the Fed level being so irresponsible and said something to the effect of 'anything is possible if the Fed continues to be irresponsible' to a question of secession.

"There's a lot of different scenarios," Perry said. "We've got a great union. There's absolutely no reason to dissolve it. But if Washington continues to thumb their nose at the American people, you know, who knows what might come out of that? But Texas is a very unique place, and we're a pretty independent lot to boot."

On Thursday, Perry called potential secession a "side issue of Texas history. ... We are very proud of our Texas history; people discuss and debate the issues of can we break ourselves into five states, can we secede, a lot of interesting things that I'm sure Oklahoma and Pennsylvania would love to be able to say about their states, but the fact is, they can't because they're not Texas."

A Perry spokeswoman said Perry believes Texas could secede if it wanted.

Obama is a huge supporter of the death penalty. Attacking his position on the death penalty is not going to be part of any real organized electoral effort. Democratic efforts on the death penalty are pretty much limited to trying to contain the fallout against politicians that oppose it.

abortion (against funding ELECTIVE abortions),

Obama's against federal funding to elective abortions.

faith comments (if you don't confess your sins to Christ, you go to hell comment),

That's maybe a dumb comment that's going to bite him.

school voucher programs (he supports),

Not a big issue anymore.

tort reform (he supports) and

Not sure how Obama is positioned on this. On the entire healthcare debate, he pretty much just sat back and let congress decide everything.

especially on his intelligent design should be taught alongside evolution (which on this one I would agree with the Dems... I don't mind it being taught as an alternative, but it should not be taught in a science class)

I'm pretty sure the current law of the land is that ID violates the establishment clause.
