Jay Thomas, the actor who played the role of Eddie LeBec, pro hockey player boyfriend then husband of Carla Tortelli on Cheers has died at age 69.
He had been battling cancer.
Other roles included a recurring role on Mork and Mindy, and a regular role on Murphy Brown.
One other thing he was known for was his annual Christmas appearance on Late Night with David Letterman, in which he would recount a true story about getting into a fender bender while driving Lone Ranger actor Clayton Moore back to his hotel, while Thomas and his associate were both stoned on some weed they had smoked earlier.
