Ron Paul and racism....

These past couple months, on these boards, Ron Paul was accused of racism from past newsletters sent out in his name, and also because some of his supporters were racist groups. However, my main concern is that, even though he has tryed to swat these allegations off of him with an unacceptable answer to those accusing him of racism, he may be the only candidate that is going to take a stand on the things that hurt minorities the most.

Would we agree that the drug war disproportionatly effects minorities? If we can agree on that, then who in the list of candidates from either side is fighting to end this ugly policy?

Can we agree that, even though the rate that minorities are signing up has dropped, they still have a higher rate of those signing up to join our military? Only a few candidates from either side want to bring them home. It seems the other candidates view them as expendable.

What are some other things we can think of, as far as policy goes, that effect minorities, and where does Ron Paul stand on those issues?

I know AA is where he is not well recieved, but what Republican candidate is?

He was very well recieved at the Minority Debate:

However, my support for the guy is dwindling but he still has the lead. I took that poll yesterday and he only got 15 points. Gravel was right behind with 14 and Kucinich at 13. Though I consider myself Libertarian, I think a more free approach to everything is just not going to work. Though, I defintly do not want the see more government expansion, and feel there are plenty of areas where we are wasting time, money, and lives on.

I can't speak for people of color, and I'm sure they're not a monolithic voting bloc.

But, I suspect they're not as obsessed about AA as some might think. Sure, its an issue of interest. But, I think most people of color are concerned about the same things most other working americans are: health care, a living wage, child day care, access and public assistance for higher education and vocational training, fairness in housing and employment.

I haven't seen too many minority groups out marching for a living wage. But I have seen large group of minorities (blacks) out protesting the drug laws and the effect it has on the community, especially black youths.

I had (black) classmates sellilng drugs when I was in high school. I didn't agree with it but I definitely understood. Often at that age it can be hard to see the big picture and all that is in front of you. So kids don't always do the right thing (that's kids of all races). But many black youth who sell drugs end up in jail and with a police record which often haunts them for the rest of their life.

Hence it is a very important issue, especially with inner-city children.

I'm starting to lean more and more towards him....

I'm not asking this in a negative way but out of curiousity. It seems Ron Paul and Dennis K. have (for the most part) very different political beliefs (at least domestically). I just find it interesting you like those two. (again not trying to say this in a negative or deragatory manner)

Lay off Cawacko, don't think I don't know what you are trying to do. I wish I had some garlic and a cross.

No way dude. I'm not doing anything. He can vote for Dennis K. he can vote for Ron P. he can vote for Hillary Clinton I don't care. I'm just asking.

I don't know the garlic and a cross.

The garlic and crosses is how you keep right wing vampires away! I sleep with them at night. ;)

I hope I meet you. I'm coming out in a fat vampire outfit.

Coming out of the closet is a fairly sober thing for a closeted gay man to do. It tends to be a sober discussion with family and friends. If you're dressed up as a fat vampire, it may detract from your "coming out".

Really? That's really cool to hear.

Yeah, I think he's a smart guy. He's right on a good portion of issues and I think he would be a pretty good president. I'm not a Democrat, but he is one of the Democrats I could support. The things I seperate myself from the Libertarian principles on deal with Education and issues dealing with children.

I don't see Ron Paul being able to do the things he wants to do with Congress keeping him in check as far as removing the Dept. of Education and other social programs that he advocates getting rid of. They differ on those issues, but I think Ron Paul will make no progress whereas Kucinich might be able to implement something on those regards. Even though I'm for smaller government, social programs aren't going away, so my best bet is to go with someone who is going to try and fix them so there is less of a need for them in the future.

I get that, especially the part about children.
