You hit on it.
They are just waiting for Trump to ‘interfere’ with the Mullet investigation. But he’s not taking the bait; most likely, because he learned the lesson when he fired Comey. Which, in retrospect, was likely another instance where Trump was baited by what you call the Deep State.
I call it a cabal of partisan snakes that need cleaned out.
Whatever you call it, Trump apparently learned his lesson with Comey. If Trump can be provoked into firing Rosenstein it could set him up for an obstruction charge, even if he does have at least a degree of political cover it would be a dicey proposition given the corruption in the media.
But Trump just sits there holding his cards. I think, because the cabal’s scheme is starting to implode on its own. In fact, the Rosenstein leak may be an act of desperation on their part. My guess is that Trump is just letting it play out. He all but gave Huber his marching orders in a Tweet after ‘reconsidering’ declassifying the FISA warrants.
Something is going to break before the midterms.
