Russia 'ready to allow grain shipments if sanctions lifted' – Rudenko

Russia is ready to provide a humanitarian corridor for vessels carrying food to leave Ukraine, in return for the lifting of some sanctions, the Interfax news agency cited Russian deputy foreign minister Andrei Rudenko as saying.

Ukraine’s Black Sea ports have been blocked since Russia sent thousands of troops into Ukraine in February. More than 20m tonnes of grain are stuck in silos in the country, raising concerns about famine in countries dependent on the supplies.

Western powers have been discussing the idea of setting up “safe corridors” for grain exports from Ukraine’s ports, although these would need Russian consent.

“We have repeatedly stated on this point that a solution to the food problem requires a comprehensive approach, including the lifting of sanctions that have been imposed on Russian exports and financial transactions,” Rudenko was quoted as saying.

“And it also requires the demining by the Ukrainian side of all ports where ships are anchored. Russia is ready to provide the necessary humanitarian passage, which it does every day.”

If the world-wide grain shortages can be alleviated by removing ' sanctions ' on the Russians then sanctions should be lifted.

Innocent people should not go hungry through the intransigence of politicians.

Lifting sanctions and allowing grain transport would be a victory for humanity, not for Russia, not for Ukraine, not for NATO.

There are no sanctions on grain. There is a Russian blockade on grain, but no sanctions.

It isn't ' sanctions of grain ' that the Russians want lifted.

Another action that they want is for the Zelenskies to remove all the mines that they have sown in Odessa harbor and in the grain-growing fields.

Oh... So you admit Russia is cutting off food to the third world, because we are not letting them invade Ukraine? When you say it like that, it sounds a lot less humanitarian.

Removing the mines would do no good for grain shipments; the Russian blockade would still be in effect. Removing the mines would help the Russians attack Odessa, which would permanently shutdown the port.

Denmark and others are sending Harpoon anti-ship missiles to Ukraine. Sinking the blockading Russian warships is the quickest way to resolve this.

exactly. When did this become an all out economic war on Russia?
It's hurting all of us. you wanna defend Ukraine -fine -but nobody signed up for food and energy shortages -
and war against Russia proper

I'm willing to sell you a bunch of stuff if it becomes legal to sell too. Can I invade Ukraine now?

I didn’t know war had ceilings, especially limits created so others wouldn’t be put off, come a long way from the rationing of WWII

what?
defending Ukraine in Ukraine is one thing - going after Russia's economy
( and even Biden said sanctions don't "deter") is quite another.

Then there are the warpigs like Austin who want "victory" over Russia -
same with a few chowder head Congress critters

I personally dont think the Ukraine government is "democratic" (it is notoriously corrupt) or worth fighting Russia over. but that's me.

But we aren't even limiting it to "defending Ukraine", and shortages are hurting the world as much as they are Russia.
Dial it back to at least low level insanity.

Russia, which has been antagonistic toward the West, in particular the US, for decades now, invades a peaceful neighboring nation and you see American foreign interests best served by ignoring the situation?

Ukraine wasn't "peaceful" - but I agree going into Kyiv was overreach. However the Azov Batallion
in Donbas really are "nazified".. and I cant go over and over how NATO expansion and US meddling in the Maidan -while Biden rejected ANY negotiations over Russian redlines was the predicate for this war.

Whatever the situation in Ukraine -turning it into a direct proxy war against Russia serves no one
and spikes fuel and grain prices

Don't play stupid with me, Walt. You'll end up on my dumbass list.

Leave them there then, dumbass. No grain.

' Peaceful neighbor, eh ' ?

Haw, haw, haw, haw, haw..............................haw, haw.................................haw.

There are real questions whether there will be planting, harvesting, storing, and transportation to Odessa... And then whether Odessa alone could even handle 10 million tons a month... They have been damaged by the war, and probably could not have handled it alone before the war.

There are backup plans. There is a chance the logistics experts will get crops through Poland to Baltic ports. The Baltic ports were overbuilt during the USSR, and are now under utilized.

Is this possible? I have no idea. I would have said converting Ukraine to the EU electric grid in under a year would be impossible, but it was done in two weeks. Parts of the Ukraine have more reliable power than they did before the war, as crazy as that sounds. The logistics of transporting 10 million tons a month seems impossible... But we will see.

Yeah but, America doesn't need Putin to lift jack shit. If we have a grain shortage it's not because of Putin.
