Russia's Nightmare Returns

Top Secret
(at the insistence of his wife)

In 1983, Ronald Reagan, in order to ensure America's safety from the Evil Empire, which threatened to incinerate America with ballistic missiles, gave the go-ahead to finance a vast, expensive research program called the Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI), known as Star Wars. The program envisaged the placement of hundreds of satellites in near-earth orbit, capable of destroying long-range ballistic missiles as they entered outer space. This circumstance shocked the Kremlin.

In the state with a planned economy in the 80s, something unimaginable was happening, goods began to disappear from stores, even matches became scarce. I remember Doctor of Economics, Academician Aganbekyan, explaining to the population on TV that matches were not planned in the required quantity by mistake. But then, following the matches, food products disappeared from the store shelves. Oil was distributed among organizations, because it was not freely available. In the Evil Empire, where the main products were missiles, bombs, airplanes, and other deadly products, there was not enough money to produce goods and products for the population. Due to the decline in world prices for oil, which was the main source of foreign currency, the purchase of vital goods for the population ceased. And then there was SDI, damn it three times. In short, there was nothing to be done to avoid hunger riots. Gorbachev went to bow to the hated West, which ended with the destruction of the epochal Berlin Wall.

The Cold War ended with a convincing victory for the West. It seemed that the confrontation between the West and the East had sunk into oblivion forever. The West sent food to the starving population, but Bush's legs were not enough for the entire population of the vast empire. Moscow decided not to tempt fate and let the so-called union republics go free, following the allies of the Warsaw Pact. The Evil Empire had died. As KGB Lieutenant Colonel Putin later said, a catastrophe of universal proportions had occurred, referring to the collapse of the USSR.

The assumption that if the communist ideology had proven unviable and led the country to collapse, then Russia had no choice but to choose the democratic path, turned out to be a big strategic mistake for the West. The long-awaited victory in the Cold War blinded the leaders of Western democracy to the processes taking place in Russia. The suckers of Western democracy, not taking into account the mentality of the Russian people with their relict imperial worldview, believed that democracy had been irrevocably established in Russia, and contributed to the restoration of its economy. (1) How can one not recall the saying: giving milk to a snake is the same as storing poison in it. They did not see a dictator and fascist patriot in the former Chekist Putin. By the way, do not consider this as bragging or self-promotion, but as soon as Putin found himself in the Kremlin, I predicted that Putin's appearance was not accidental and would have fatal consequences not so much for Russia as for the World. (2,3) It must be said that all attempts by Russian young democrats, who were entirely of non-Russian nationality, to oppose Putin in the struggle for power were doomed due to the incompatibility of the mentality of the Russian people with the principles of democracy. (4,5) In other words, Russia, having rejected democracy, which the Russian people cannot stomach, for the reason that empire and democracy are incompatible concepts, has set a course back towards empire. (6) In short, the Tsar-father appeared, dispersed the oligarchs who themselves brought him to power, curbed the verbosity of the young democrats, drenched Chechnya in blood, built a vertical of power, calling it sovereign democracy, that is, democracy for the sovereign, liquidated the beginnings of Yeltsin's democracy, turning the elections into a farce, and thereby saved the remnants of the empire. And all this before the eyes of the West, silently looking at "Putin's friend" (as the political amateur Bush Jr. called him). And today the democrats are racking their brains over how to appease the now fascist, Putler (7,8) in his revanchist frenzy to return Ukraine to the bosom of the empire. The current situation is a mirror image of Europe on the eve of World War II, when England and France, fearing to provoke Hitler into a major war, appeased the aggressor with Czechoslovakia, and they got this war. Putin's plans to establish a new world order and revise the political map of Europe are in principle no different from Hitler's revanchist aspirations, and Putin himself is not much different from the German Fuhrer, except perhaps for his disproportionately large lie. (9) It took three years of brutal war for the leaders of European states to realize the seriousness of the threat, quite reasonably foreseeing that the Russian monster would not stop after devouring Ukraine, because without war the Russian Empire was doomed to perish. By the way, Putin himself has nothing to fear for his power in a war, and even more so if the war is successful, which the revanchist had no doubt about. Putin was not mistaken in the strategy of the chosen path, democratic countries, and especially European ones, were absolutely not ready for a war with such a powerful state as Russia.

Of course, Europe, lulled by the victory in the Cold War, did not foresee such a turn of events. Almost throughout the entire post-war period, the EU countries did not deal with security issues, and Trump is right in accusing Europe of cutting its defense budget. True, Trump, having crossed the threshold of the White House, attempted to repeat Europe's past historical mistake and appease the aggressor with part of Ukraine's territory, but fortunately for Ukraine and Europe, this venture failed. Putin's plans include the entire Black Sea coast of Ukraine, and better yet, all of Ukraine.

Having realized the hopelessness of his promise to stop the bloodshed, Trump decided to completely avoid fulfilling his promise, throwing out a phrase that let the EU and Russia solve their own problems. It is likely that the American president has decided to focus on his other campaign promise - to make America Great. But it seems that his entourage has hinted that it is also impossible to fulfill without eliminating the threat from Russia. I dare to assume that the White House reminded Donald Trump how Ronald Reagan literally in an instant brought Moscow to heel, and now Donald Trump is immediately giving the go-ahead for the allocation of huge funds to resume work on the SDI program. Considering Russia's colossal lag in space flights and the catastrophic state of its economy, it is useless for Moscow to even think about an adequate response to this challenge. How can one not recall Putin's famous phrase, "there are no analogues to such weapons." If in Reagan's time many scientific and technical issues had to be resolved in order to successfully implement the SDI program, today America does not have such a problem, which will greatly reduce the time it will take to turn SDI into a reality that is terrible for Putin's Russia. A reality that will end with the final collapse of the Evil Empire, which will shrink to Muscovy and many colonial peoples will gain freedom. Well, and Putin himself will at best end up in The Hague, if he does not suffer the fate of Gaddafi before that.
