Nick Saban is staying at UA for the rest of his career, according to statements he released. And he admitted there were some very good offers made after the 2011 season was completed.

But the UA sees the value of a top tier program, and ponied up the bucks.

"The board of trustees agreed to pay him $5.1 million next year, and the salary will increase by $50,000 after the year. From there it will rise by $100,000 per year. That means by the year 2019, Saban will be making $5.72 million for the year. The contract is scheduled to run out on January 31, 2020."

Good grief, no wonder tuitions are so high!

Rana, the actual amount paid the the university is only a very small portion. The bulk of the pay is thru endorsements.

Also, according to Businessofcollegesports.com, the UA athletic dept had a net income of $31,684,872. So he is a huge source of profit for the UA. If anything, his work has helped support programs that might have had to dip into the general fund at UA, so he helped keep tuitions from rising even more.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if those endorsers paid for tuitions with that money instead, but I live in a daydream according to some.

In a way they do. Some of the money earned goes to athletic scholarships, which allows athletes the opportunity to get a top quality education.
