Saddam Killed Nelson Mandela

Is Bush drunk? Another in the long line of bizzare Bush blatherings. This is wierd on so many levels. First, I think Nelson Mandela is stil alive. Second, what kind of nation have we become when one of the century's most celebrated advocates of human rights and democracy, dismisses our president - and by extension our nation - as a bunch of arrogant warmongers, set on controlling iraqi oil? Mandela used to dig us....

GEORGE BUSH: "I heard somebody say, `Where's Mandela?' Well, Mandela's dead because Saddam Hussein killed all the Mandelas."

Oh, my goodness, I wonder how Nelson felt a bout hearing he was dead and Saddam killed him...

What a maroon!

Cypress, I imagine that he is just using Mandela as an archetype of a political dissident jailed under Saddaam who would have healed the country. He's saying that Saddaam killed all those who would have been the Nelson Mandella's of Iraq.

That's my take on it. They don't provide much context.

You could try actually reading the article before rendering comment.

I know that. Its just an inartful and bizarre way of expressing it.

It actually makes sense in that context. That is how I understood it also.

LOL. He wasn't saying that Saddam killed the person himself. He was basically stating where are the people like Mandela in Iraq, well they are all dead because Saddam has killed them.

He just stated it badly, like he always does.

Which is why its funny! :cof1:

That is what he was doing, but his phrasing, as always, stinks!

Actually there are Mandelas there, Bush just doesn't like it that they are
against his policies! There are individuals fighting for their people, like Al-Sadr, but it is obvious why we don't call him a Mandela.

Its just easier for Bush to shift blame elsewhere: Saddam killed all the liberal secular leaders, or whatever...than to just come out and say that he (Bush) just completely misread iraq, and disregarded the warnings of many experts.

Very insightful. That's pretty true.

This thread should go in a list of classics somewhere.

I can't say for certain that Cypress didn't know what Bush meant, but it seems Blackascoal certainly missed it.

Is W a little too lofty for you black? You miss his subtle use of metaphors.

Lol.
