Tonight on Fox News and MSNBC:

Fox News Analyst: Saddam's execution looked like a lynching by shia thugs. It's going to exacerbate the sectarian divisions between sunni and shia. Its a disaster for the united states and maliki government.

Joe Scarborough, MSNBC: It was disgusting. Saddam actually ended up looking like a statesman, and the shia executioners looked and acted like thugs. This was revenge, not justice. It was a farce.



I think this execution should have been handled more dignified. It looks like shia revenge, by a mob of Muqtada Al Sadr's militia.

Can you imagine what it would have looked like had we not been careful with his handling? We were afraid he would be taunted... turns out we were right.
 
The taunting was the worst party. It really did look like a lynching. And to make matters worse, Saddam looked dignified by comparison to the taunting thugs.

Not good for shia-sunni relations.
 
All state executions are lynchings.

The state shouldn't have the power to kill its own people, no matter how disgusting they might be.

They also will not allow you to involuntary imprison them, yet they can... Hmmmm... Let's follow this train to its logical conclusion....

If the State were only allowed to do what it allowed for others Prisons would be outlawed.... I like it!

Well, I personally agree.

But, if the shia were hell-bent on killing him, it would have been better in the interest of national reconcilliation and justice, if they had let saddam stand trial for his atrocities on the kurds and sunnis, as well as the shia. He was certainly charged with crimes against the kurds, but the shia rushed him to exectuion before he could stand trial for the gassing of the kurds.

And certainly, they shouldn't have let a hanging turn into a lynch mob perpatrated by taunting shia thugs. That's going to alienate the sunni.
 
It really was barbaric and confirms my stance against the death penalty. Even with someone as heinous (sp?) that didn't give me a sense of "justice".
 
I believe there will be posthumous trials on the other charges... I'm not quite sure of the law in Iraq, but I believe I remember hearing his lawyer talking about that.

I think the government there knew that there was no way the US would leave unless Saddam had gone... so there was a bit of a rush.
