Fletcher's 'gay card' from an old deck
By John Cheves

With just days to go until Election Day, Gov. Ernie Fletcher reached into his pocket and pulled out the gay card. Fletcher and his Republican allies warned voters that Democratic challenger Steve Beshear had gay and lesbian friends, that he backed "every homosexual cause," that he would legalize same-sex marriage, promote adoption by gay couples and put more gay teachers in schools.

He still lost :D

Mitch has started running a commerical for his re-election next year. It does not say the Word Republican anywhere in it. It does however mention Democrat many times....

GASP! Oh, the horror!

, that he backed "every homosexual cause," that he would legalize same-sex marriage,

Is this really all it takes to elevate a Con's blood pressure, and get them frothing at the mouth?

promote adoption by gay couples and put more gay teachers in schools.

That's odd. I would think the anti-abortion, pro-adoption crowd would welcome more qualified and competent adults to volunteer to adopt fetuses. And we certainly need more, competent and qualified people willing to teach in our schools.

Rove showed, time and again, that the "Gay card" works. Fortunately for America, it works less and less as years pass. Perhaps America is ready for big boy pants.

If not having been stupid enough to fall for the manipulations that folks such as Rove have perpetrated for the last several years, and feeling some degree of scorn for those who who have, makes me an elitist, then so be it.

Then again, I bet you call anyone who is obviously smarter than you such a name. It must sting less than accepting reality.

Obviously smarter than me? Hardly. Unfortunately for some people, not all of us have to take refuge in ten-dollar words and catchy misanthropic phrases on forums to prove our intelligence-- I am quite comfortable in my own skin without wearing a huge sign that says "I broke out the thesaurus today!".
