SEC Comes up North

Mott the Hoople

Sweet Jane
Finally. It happened. An SEC team had to come up north to play a game in our weather. Tennessee did look uncomfortable playing in the cold for the First Qtr and that’s all it took the Buckeyes wrap the game up. I don’t think many were expecting the game to be a blowout but when your opponent is putting in the third string QB in the 4th qtr…you just got a serious beat down.

Cool.

You coulda posted this in Current Events, you know. That's allowed now.

"While not technically electoral politics, this involves politics because college football is American culture and with all the politicking regarding both the gov'ts role in N.I.L. and the regulation of the NCAA (and the politicking of the coaches over who should be in or out)."

Love this Mott! To your point that was an absolute butt kicking!

Let me ask you this. Was hearing there were some Bucks fans rooting for the team to lose because it would mean (they thought) that Day would be fired. Was that just a fringe group or did it permeate the fan base?

Yes Georgia is good but if you ask me the Oh St- Oregon game should be for the national title. This is the best game.

It could be but I’ll wait till the tournament is over just to avoid a jinx. LOL

Yes, there are fringe elements that have said that but the problem is all Buckeyes are on the fringe. That is we’re nuts.

I think it’s more like Buckeye fans are speculating that if the Buckeyes lost last night would Day be gone? Probably not and this win ensures he probably will be our coach next year.

Day will get a break if he wins the national championship but they have to play three really good teams. At this stage though pretty much all the teams don’t have the odds in their favor.

All I can tell you is after last night they look like a legit contender. None of the other 1st round teams dominated like the Buckeyes did. The weather is no excuse for how badly Tennessee was beaten last night.

I remember when Alabama came to Foxborough to play Boston College...in December.
It didn't go well for them, but the following year, BC also beat them in Tuscaloosa.

That was the early eighties, the Doug Flutie years, when BC was up and the Tide was down.
I haven't been to a BC game since, even though they were fairly good in the Matt Ryan years, too.

To be clear, I’m not suggesting that the winner of the Rose Bowl will necessarily win the title but I am saying if they seeded the playoff like they do in the NFL I think these would be the two top seeds and this should be the final game.

That’s irrelevant however and the reality is they are playing in round two and it should be a hell of a game again and the Bucks have as much talent on their roster as anyone (but as the game against Michigan showed, having more talent doesn’t guarantee a victory.)

BC had the quite the run in the early to mid ‘80’s under Flutie.

The Hail Mary play against Miami is one of the most iconic plays in college football history.
