In late October 2016 FBI Director Comey agonized over whether to reveal that a large cache of emails had been found relating to the Clinton case. The FBI had Weiner’s laptop but they hadn’t examined the Clinton material on it – a separate search warrant was required for that – so they didn’t know how relevant the material might be (or not, as it turned out).
Nevertheless, Comey decided it was his duty to make the discovery public. He sent a letter informing Congress on October 28, and it dominated the “fake news media” up to the election. Many people assumed it meant that something damaging to Clinton had been discovered.
Trump told a rally: “I have great respect for the fact that the FBI and the Department of Justice are now willing to have the courage to right the horrible mistake that they made.” (The horrible mistake, in his view, was closing the Clinton email investigation the previous July.)
“James Comey did the right thing” – William Barr.

Neither the FBI nor the Obama Justice Department revealed that there was an ongoing investigation into Russian election interference and possible connections to the Trump campaign. Nobody leaked it. It remained unknown to the public until months after the election.
Now we are told that Comey, McCabe, Strzok and others were engaged in sedition – that is, in US law, inciting violent insurrection against lawful authority. I guess the lawful authority was candidate Trump, and the FBI leadership was urging people to storm Trump Tower. It’s shocking!
