SF Mayor London Breed Announces Crime Crackdown; ...

" “It’s time the reign of criminals who are destroying our city, it is time for it to come to an end,” she said. “And it comes to an end when we take the steps to more aggressive with law enforcement. More aggressive with the changes in our policies and less tolerate of all the bullshit that has destroyed our city.” "

Long overdue...hopefully other cities will soon follow suit...

I'll believe it when I see it. The Police Department is massively undermanned, and that is just the start of the problems.

What a load of political horseshit.

So...if a government just throws enough money and cops at the drug problem?
That will MASSIVELY, alleviate it?
Oh Gee...is that all it takes?

Someone want to post a link to an unbiased source showing where that has EVER happened?

So, the mayor will tell the cops to get the addicts off the streets, lower the street crime in designated areas and make a couple, high profile, drug busts.
And the police will do just that.
So the mayor will come on TV in 2-4 months and say 'I did it! The addicts are off the streets. The crime rate is down in blah blah area. And we have these one/two HUGE busts over the last month which I am sure took a big bite out of the local drug scene for months.'
And the ignorant masses will say 'Wow...she DID it!'

But all the police did was move the addicts indoors, move the crime to another part of the city and slow down the drug trade in SF for about 48-72 hours with her BIG busts.
And unless she allocated extra money for this?
Her plan will just take resources from other, more important crimes that the police are trying to fight...like murders, rapes and armed robberies.

So then what?
1) the addicts will now be harder to find to try and offer rehab help to.
2) drug-related crime will actually rise - overall - in the city as all this heat will just raise the price of the drugs on the street.
Forcing addicts to steal even more stuff to feed their habits.

If this joke of a mayor REALLY wants to drop drug crime and get the addicts off the streets?
Simple.
- (quietly) stop arresting people for minor drug offenses (like possession and/or sale to consenting adults below certain amounts).
- specify some unused government building near nothing important as a user building. Drug addicts can go inside and use without fear of charge...providing they remain peaceful.

This will lower the price of the drugs...and lower the amount of street crime addicts need to commit to feed their habit.
And the addicts will be off the streets.

Outside of legalizing drugs/prostitution?
This is about the only way you can lower drug crime in America substantially.

And forget about slowing/stopping the drug trade.
No chance.
NONE.
