I hope he doesn't bail them out. Maybe this is a move by the Saudi's and others to drive out fracking, but lower prices do not help them. They have a single source economy. They rely solely on oil. So this would be a risky gambit for them.

I think he needs to. Being able to produce oil of your own in significant quantities is a major bargaining chip for geopolitics even if only to drive prices down as a threat. We shouldnt lose that.

The dilemma for OPEC is they can only temporarily drive fracking down with low oil prices.
Yeah, it can drive some frackers out of business, in the short term, but as soon as the price of crude goes back up—fracking will come back.
The shale industry has been hit pretty hard with the mild winter we've had here in the Northeast.
But yes, we must maintain our ability to produce our own energy.
