Should February 3rd (Signing Day) Be A National Holiday?

Ok, so I know not everyone in America waits with baited breath for the college decisions of 17 and 18 year old kids but for those of us who do it is an extremely unproductive day at the office. And of course how Rivals or Scouts rates a kid has about zero impact on how he'll perform on the field for his team but it is a huge day nonetheless.

I was going to run for Governor of California when they had the recall and my two platforms were going to be all thong all the time requirement for women (with an excessive weight size exception) and signing day being a state holiday. I could have gotten some votes running on those issues I believe.

Not sure about the thong platform. But the signing day being a holiday would have won you a lotta votes in certain circles. My blackberry gets a bigger workout on that day than any other.

Man, I feel like a kid the night before Christmas with signing day tomorrow. Should be pretty wild.

Should we really celebrate the fact that 17 and 18 year-olds are signing up to have their labor exploited for four or five years without remuneration while everyone around them gets filthy rich?

In some cases kids are getting a $250k education for free. However there is an argument to be made for the players getting some cut of all the money they bring in.

It should be and we should get some real nice sound bites from Lane Kiffin.

Only a football hating turbo-lib would say the kids are exploited. The education which most of them shit on is worth a lot as indicated.

There is also a chance that their play will earn them a good living at the NFL level. So you could consider this an internship of sorts.

I am willing to celebrate the system that allows athletes access to a top quality education and that will open doors for them that almost no other route could do.

They are playing a game. For that they get fame, possibly fortune, and the adoration of fans.

Not a bad deal.

It's also a celebration of these kids realizing their dreams to play college football. Instead of looking at them as victims rejoice with them for what they have accomplished.

But that just more evidence of how fucked up it is. College football is a multi-billion dollar industry and the free labor that generates that money is ecstatic to work for free. Should we really celebrate such a fucked up system?

What would you like to see happen?
