The US government was just keeping the family together like the Progressive Left has been demanding.

No one is tearing families apart. The spouse/parent is easily permitted to go along with

Nope. The US citizen child was not deported; she was provided free transportation to Mexico, but could have remained in the US. The child opted to travel with her parents, as was her right, and the US government provided her free transportation.
