A man was killed at a Mexican restaurant in the early hours of this morning after performing an unpopular karaoke song, Houston Police Department said.
He reportedly sang 'Somos Mas Americanos' which means ‘We are more American’ before being shot to death by a fellow patron who did not like his choice of song.
Shortly before he finished the song an argument broke out among a group of men.
Fox 26 News reported that one of them, thought to be in his twenties, pulled out a gun and shot the victim in the head. It is not yet known whether victim and killer knew one another.
The shooter then fled the restaurant with several friends and made off in a red Chevrolet pickup truck. Two women left in a green Nissan Pathfinder.
Houston Police Department confirmed officers had been sent to the Ostioneria Mazatlan seafood restaurant at the 6400 block, Sandspoint around 2.30 am, after it had closed for the night.
Sgt. J.J. Wilson, HPD Homicide said: ‘Apparently it was karaoke night. One of the gentleman, as soon as he stepped off the stage, someone didn't agree with the song or the music or something, and there was an altercation inside the restaurant.’
The victim, thought to also be in his twenties, has not yet been identified. Police believe he had spent the evening with his family at the taqueira.
