So, my server company once again had issues with the OnApp server. For those who do not know, OnApp is the central application that allows them to set up virtual servers, etc. so that I can have a separate server on the cloud though the computers share their drives.... (I hope that makes sense to y'all, it does to me).

Anyway, I am definitely working on finding a new server company, I have had some suggestions from folks on here and I will be looking at those as well.

I find it annoying that they seem unable to keep the one server that binds them all up long enough to keep my server from having constant downtimes...

Still trying to find the pricing... I have no idea what AWS would cost.

  1. A forum owner looking for AWS hosting pricing can explore several avenues to get detailed, up-to-date information:
    1. AWS Official Website:
      • AWS Pricing Page: Visit aws.amazon.com/pricing/ to get an overview of pricing for various AWS services. This includes EC2, S3, RDS, and other services that might be relevant for hosting a forum.
      • AWS Calculator: Use the AWS Pricing Calculator at calculator.aws/#/ to estimate costs based on your specific needs. You can input details like instance types, storage, data transfer, and other variables to see an estimated monthly cost.
    2. AWS Documentation:
      • The AWS documentation provides detailed pricing guides for each service. For instance, EC2, which might be used for hosting, has its own detailed pricing page where you can see costs by instance type, region, and operating system.
    3. AWS Free Tier:
      • Check out the AWS Free Tier details at aws.amazon.com/free/. This can be beneficial for testing or starting with minimal costs, offering free usage for 12 months on many services with certain limitations.

Can't trust Amazon. Remember what they did to Parler?

I've been using them for over a decade in business. They are rock solid. Running VCenter and Cloud Direct as if they were local servers. But it is expensive. About $60K a month for our setup. Obviously JPP isn't running a half-dozen SQL servers with load balancing, an adobe ecommerce front end, highest level EBS volumes, and all the rest .

The only complaint is the cost. But no hardware to buy, virtually 100% uptime. Losing the ecommerce site for a couple of hours would cost $60K. So it's worth it.

I think the cost may be comparable. Unfortunately I had to sign up for a "free" account to find out... lol. I think slightly more with the database being transferred but it may be almost the same.

I have been really pleased with them. Point in time rollbacks at 5 minute increments. We manage our own VMWare install, so that's saved our ass a few times. Scalable on the fly. Add EBS capacity as needed. So we can keep it lean until we need more storage. Same with CPU and RAM pools.
